Gaming, cooking, smoking meat, landscaping, exercise. I dunno if home improvement is a hobby but the endorphin rush I get from finishing a project feels pretty nice.

Call it quarter of a million? Somewhere around there.

Man after being raised in apartments my whole life, I have never been happier then when I’m high and just loving around with my big rear end yard. Just watering the wild flower seeds, throwing away an entire trash cans worth of pinecones and raking leaves out of my dry river bed. Just a good place

Not much to look at but when we moved in this was just a flat dry muddy flood plane. Making small progress and only a week or 2 from the last frost, lots of little buds popping up

Oh that’s nice. I guess I wasn’t including cooking and exercising. Some exercising is, like snowboarding or climbing. But the regular day to day exercise to keep at least some shred of health, not really. Good for you! I’m glad that you have so much fulfillment in your life!

I need to game more. And earn more lol I’m not even in the same time zone as $250k.

I hope all of you are enjoying Zelda :) I won’t be able to sink into it until Sunday.

I like to save time by bundling all my hobbies into a single video game. Cooking, fishing, walking, maintaining my house, buying Steam games I'll never play, watering plants, collecting "collectible trash", swigging Estus during PvP, you know. The basics.

Splitting between several hobbies has definitely led to never mastering one in particular, and also a lot of accumulated hobby crap I'll never actually use. But I just get interested in... well, anything, really, the world is so interesting! And I have kind of an attitude of "of course I can learn how to do that" about things that I think is really healthy and good, even if it does lead to a certain level of distractedness and incomplete projects. I'm trying to stick with woodworking, though. Not that I'll never do any of the other stuff or try anything new again, but I'm determined to actually finish the projects I start, and I've mostly been successful. Mostly.

Yeah when the lockdown first happened I quit my warehouse management job when we were stated as essential (we made high end kid wheelchairs, during a lockdown, where the gently caress were them kids rolling to at the time??) and loaded up on hobby stuff, from puzzles and car models, dropped $500 on a bass setup, and a $300 r/c. Annnnd yup none of that worked out but me and the wife’s relationship lasted thru it, hell my son was born August 2020….having a kid during the middle of the pandemic was a loving thing. I only ever saw 3-4 people going from the parking garage to our room. Total silence the entire time

I grew up on a 2 acre wooded lot and and with some childhood buddies used to build the hell out of RC tracks. Can confirm it rips

One of my friends down the road lived in basically a huge field and had older brothers who built a whole-rear end BMX track in his yard, with jumps and berms and stuff. Wild.

The funny thing is that I think the ennui and anhedonia were already there, but the booze was just easy medication for it. Not a lot at one time (outside of occasional weekend events or something) but a lot over a lot of time.

Like Craft Beer Dad is a thing except it was Craft Beer Husband and Craft Beer Guy before that. I homebrewed. I eventually wanted to work in a brewery. Vacations had brewery stops.

I like let it usurp spaces in my personality and it was easy to do so. And I lost touch with a lot of other things I enjoyed doing. Thankfully I have an opportunity to like claw some of that back for myself now.

Since hobbies came up, it's fascinating to me when you guys talk about gaming. I used to game a ton up until college, but never got a console after the Xbox 360. If I do game these days, it's going back and playing old SNES games or romhacks.

Finding games with short sessions that are still satisfying has been a big part of that, for me. I barely gamed for years after college but discovering Hades has definitely brought that hobby back into my life. I don't often have time for the long sessions I used to without obligations, and it took me a while to figure out that's what was killing it for me.

I mostly play retro stuff too. I think a lot of it is how easy it is to slide into a game you've already played. Especially with NES and early Genesis stuff where the controllers only have a few buttons and so even if you dommanage to find something new to you there's usually less of a learning curve.

:same: no new TV consoles here since the original Wii, had a 3DS that I was a big fan of for a while and am trying to rediscover. It's tough when your day starts at 7 AM and ends around 8:30-9 PM, though a lot of that's by choice (getting up early to run each day, spending a lot of time with the wife and kid especially after work). Can't wait until the kid is in daycare in July and I can take a gaming break here and there during the workday.
