Unfortunately, that's probably bullshit. I've seen several articles about lawyers telling Donnie that he's probably hosed and the action will be on appeal, but that's nowhere close on sentencing. As a white collar, first-time offender on a NY State charge, he could reasonably be sentenced to probation just as much as jail/prison time, or a short jail term where he shows up and almost immediately gets released.

https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-going-jail-time-ny-indictment-slim-odds-2023-3

And with delays, drag-outs, and appeals, he could even push it past his potential election.

That's the equivalent of a Louise Mensch tweet being pro-life, but sad to report on Bannon's execution.

Real Talk, its hard not to smile when you are shooting rockets or a TOW. OIF 1 they were handing out AT4 by the dozens. We had enough that every guy could carry 2 if they wanted. Looking at pics of the Invasion, it seemed every gun hatch had multiple to it.

Fun Fact- AT4 can blow up when shot- don't do that.

Buddy of mine fired an AT4 (maybe a SMAW?) that I guess had a defect or a compromised seal and something obstructing the round or who knows what but it caused the front end of the tube to explode. The round itself made it out and downrange alright but he got face full of launcher fragments that got him sent home. I wasn't real big on shooting rockets after seeing that.

Yep! We learned that by experience. An AT4 was dropped and forgotten after everyone got wounded, and we got pushed back. Someone went to shoot it to deny it to the enemy, and it exploded. We never put them on the hatch,
And told every gunner we met.

Since MHS Genesis pulls almost all your medical records, you can't lie about and hide all your medical poo poo from MEPS anymore. Seems like a good thing on the surface, except now late millennials and Gen Z are getting completely hosed since they're generally more likely to have seen a doctor or therapist when they needed help, as opposed to the rest of us who largely got told to just tough it out. Genesis will spit out a huge list of poo poo that MEPS will want waivers for, and then when people come back from their doctors, MEPS will look at a vague or unclear statement the doctor wrote and send the recruit back to get clarification on that.

I've got a bunch of friends who either recently entered or are in the process of going into the service bands, and seeing the hoops they've had to jump through and how many times they've bounced back and forth from primary care and specialists to MEPS has been insane. Most of the bands are now requiring people to contact a recruiter and go to MEPS first before even showing up at an audition, just because it can take 6 months to a year to get some of these people in.

The solution would be revise the list of disqualifying conditions, but lol at them actually doing that. gently caress you if you've ever gotten help as a civilian, but once you're in we want to to get help (but gently caress you if you actually go get help).

Holy poo poo, never thought the DoD would be stupid enough to pierce that particular veil. Me, and almost all my friends in the Navy that I talked to about this stuff just lied on our forms about this stuff, like our recruiters told us to. Same with the weed.

This is also going to bias out anyone from the middle class that has access to voluntary medical care.

I'd like to think this will force the services to change their relationship with mental health care and healthcare in general, but I know it somehow won't. Like maybe they'll let asthmatics carry Albuterol on a submarine, instead of saying "don't tell me about that, that's a disqualifying condition" -real words told to me by a real doctor.

I guess to their credit, the DoD is running a pilot program with relaxed standards for a lot of medical conditions, but even these are kind of poo poo. Had an IEP after age 14? Had insomnia? Your parent died and you saw a therapist for more than 12 months? Sorry, you're hosed, welcome to waiver limbo.

I had to laugh at this bit, though:

quote:

Recruiters for other services echoed the Marine’s take: that Genesis makes processing too long, allowing kids to back out or change their mind before they have signed their contract.

“I had to battle the disinterest” of the teen, Johnson said. “For most people, they’re looking for instant gratification. That’s also a common trend we’ve seen out here: If I can’t get them something now, they generally leave.”

“It comes to the point where they’re like, ‘This is too much work, I’m just gonna go apply at Starbucks,’” Navy recruiter Harris said.

Also, gently caress Genesis, it's made getting appointments in the DMV/NCR area here a pain in the rear end, and my appointments get interrupted by my Doc getting pulled away for a few minutes due to Genesis BS.

Yeah, I’ve seen genesis do the same things described in that article. I don’t have a lot of respect for the way the medical folks handle their end of the clearance process, and it does come down especially hard on anyone who’s been to a counselor. Or, weirdly, on military brats since every scraped knee is in the genesis system.

There are four of them, but yeah.

Fluoxetine (Prozac)
Sertraline (Zoloft)
Citalopram (Celexa)
Escitalopram (Lexapro)

And it has to be one of those drugs alone. A history of using multiple psychiatric drugs concurrently, even two from that list, is disqualifying.

Is that really regressive? FAA sounds like it really wants to be a zero defect institution, and while anybody might accept the call of the void, somebody that has a history of mental health treatment would probably lead to all kinds of horrific investigations and framing by political interests.
