No doubt, I just wonder what they could do with whatever's the latest mobile chips (or knowing Nintendo, the latest mobile chips of a year ago). It makes absolutely no sense, but an apple silicon SoC would be amazing for a Switch 2.

For how big this game is and what it is trying to do the performance is outstanding. For me performance only knocks a game if it is consistently poor most of the time.

centrism is a hell of a drug

I don’t care about the performance at all. It would be nice if the game looked better but I can tolerate it.

I mean, I remember PC games on a budget machine as a kid in the 90s-early 2000s and this is WAY better than that. Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time and it looked like blurry mud, dropped to like 15 FPS if it was raining or there were too many buildings (yes, buildings) on screen, and crashed to desktop about once an hour.

Nintendo have long since proven to themselves that Nextgen hardware isn't necessary to be extremely profitable and well regarded. A huge part of their userbase are too young to care and the rest of us are going to buy anyway because we want Nintendo games. Frankly emulating this game and getting 1080p/60fps is viable if you're willing to spend several times the cost of a switch on hardware. I did it before release and then bought the game anyway to have on my cheap portable hardware and haven't gone back to the emulator since.

1000% agree. Between this, and Elden Ring, we have a new standard for open world RPGs. And TotK is less so an RPG, but open world games in general, we are eating really good right now for this genre.

A ways back at this point, but I really think the next elder scroll game has it's work cut out for it if it wants to match up to those two open world games.

Hell even Witcher 3 outclassed every other Elder Scrolls game eight years ago. (I had to look to make sure it was actually that long ago. The passage of time is cruel and unrelenting :().

Bethesda-style open world games are pretty much dead if they can't match this poo poo. The thing that TotK (and BotW, and Elden Ring) do is they have the same, "go anywhere, discover things" vibe as say, Skyrim... except the stuff you find is actually interesting and fun. Even when half the time TotK just offers up more crafting resources or another shrine, it feels genuinely magical when you figure out how it works. Skyrim (and FO4) have this problem where the game feels scared to do anything interesting, so you end up with boring loot and most gameplay segments being another combat slog through prefab corridors.

I am genuinely amazed at this game (and I had a similar experience with BotW, obviously) where you see something and think, "I bet there's something over there" and then you check it out and it's some wild poo poo you didn't even know was in the game. Also it's telling that both ER and NeoZelda games probably half a fraction of the writing that like FO4 or Skyrim has, yet they're better for it because the entire point of these games is to imply a story through exploration rather than have a bunch of NPCs voiced by the same guy just tell you what the story is.

Olay, that statue quest at the Great Plateau is absolutely worth it. And it's actually pretty easy, the game gives you the tools to do it on site.

Free health/stamina upgrade and if you brought Poes to a statue unlocks a piece of Gloom res gear.

I can guarantee they didn't forget and kept it in because it's a perfect use-case for the power. They turned off Ultrahand in one spot there, where I couldn't get one of the trap floor slabs out of the hole it fell in to block the flames that stop Riju, despite absolutely being in range outside the hole and being able to use it on them inside the hole. If they wanted to keep you from Ascending between floors where it wasn't "intentional" they would have.

Some teeth long for ripping, gleaming wet from black dog gums. So you keep your eyes closed at the end. You don't want to see such a mouth up close. before the bite, before its oblivion in the goring of your soft parts, the speckled lips will curl back in a whinny of excitement. You just know it.
I dived down to the depths because I found a mysterious hole and thought "oh that's probably something", while I was down there I found a skellington horse and then got my rear end kicked repeatedly and comprehensively until I decided I wasn't prepared to be there yet and fast-traveled to the surface. Weird place.

okay so i thought the game only took place maybe one or two years later, but i just got to tarrey town and Hudson & Rhondson have a daughter?? Which is adorable, but it also means this game has to take place like, at LEAST 5 years later. Koko and Cottla looked mostly the same age, but I'm gonna chalk that up to the fact that the sheikah live longer, so they probably grow slower too.

No, but it's far more convenient and faster than trying to manually do it. I'm pretty sure the tutorial forcing you to use the teleport to complete it is the game developers acknowledging that sometimes, you should just use fast travel

Pro tip for climbing steep mountains on limited stamina:

If you’re climbing and there’s a slope that’s like on the borderline of being walkable, you can switch from climbing to standing. Push the movement stick forward so that you don’t slide down. Even if it’s too steep and standing fails and you go back to climbing, the attempt to stand will mean you’re not climbing for that second or two, during which your stamina regenerates a precious little bit

This is something I got a lot of mileage out of in BOTW and it seems to work in TOTK too

I spent about 2 hours mapping out the depths. It's a really cool area that I still kind of don't have a grasp on traversing yet... It feels great to fire a large light way off into the murky darkness and for this huge area to suddenly come into veiw. Deep alien underground Ruins never stop being cool.

After that I decided to do some stuff with the resources I found but ended up getting side tracked by The hole in the wall in the Royal Shelter
I've been in here for another two hours! I'm running low on food and Ammo and weapons even at this point. I've found 2 pieces of armor and I've died like 4 times and it's STILL GOING :psyduck:

If it's anything like botw buying gear strictly for the base armor stats is only gonna be an incremental upgrade, you're gonna want to upgrade them to become actually tanky
