My dad made a floating heater out of a piece of foam insulation glued to plywood with a resistive heating element stuck through it and wired to a cut extension cord. It did not help.

Lets see just how bad this is at heating that pool. A rental propane tank contains about 15lbs of propane, or 13.36 liters. Each liter of propane has 6,103,000 calories of energy, so 81,536,080 in total. The pool is one of the Intex Easy Set pools, which come in a bunch of sizes, but that one looks close enough to the 15 x 42 one, which has a capacity of 3,736 gal / 14,142 liters of water. Assuming 100% perfect heat transfer, with no heat loss to the environment, that propane tank can heat the pool by 5.7c, or 10.2f. Once you factor in reality, there's going to be a warm jet of piss hot water going into the pool, with no noticeable change other than that warm spot. Heating up water takes a lot of loving energy, it's way better to find some way to get the sun to do it for you. Or at least put as close to 100% of your energy into the water, not like 10%.

I once ran a participant through fMRI who forgot to tell us they were wearing hair extensions. The localiser scan looked like Pacman had taken bites out of her head. Wondered what the hell I was looking at for a few seconds. Also, the first time I saw a geriatric brain through MRI was alarming. I asked the tech if they might have some kind of condition like Alzheimer's and he said "Nope that's completely normal".

I've thought about rigging something like this up with irrigation hose and a dishwasher pump. The pool water is already close to 80°F now though, might not be worth the effort. Just have to get the chemistry right before it's swimmable.

If you want to use solar for heating be sure to check out tech ingredients on youtube, they make some inexpensive solar heat collectors and just generally do neat experiments.
