The day after Hillary lost was an amazing experience.

I was reading whatever usual thread, and saw someone's av showing banned who I wouldn't have expected to be banned.
I clicked through to see four pages of bans from the election.

Four entire leper's colony pages of dipshits banned from toxxing for Hillary.

I had forgotten that the US was having an election the day before.

didn't they give a shitload of people who toxxed for hillary clemency with the reason being "it would singlehandedly cripple the majority of the current forums userbase" lol

Nah. Some mods tried to, and a mod set up a charity thread to allow people to donate to a charity to avoid ban/permabans, but Lowtax shut that down quickly and told the D&D/CSPAM mods to suck it up and start enforcing the Toxx.

Thus went the hillarymen.

”the hillarymen” being a really weird way a weird CSPAMmer described it in SAD in a recent discussion, and I still find it so stupid as to be amusing

they were going to permaban everyone that toxxed for trump and were gloating about it beforehand but then tried to backpedal and make excuses when hillary lost as everyone was concurrently losing their minds after the 2016 election

Been said the 2016 toxxes had a genuinely observable effect on the forums culture and politics. Also hillarymen has been in use for like a decade, see also hillfolk

Actually probably earlier given the whole hillaryis44 crowd who for some reason all ended up going full trump

There was a goon who melted down extremely hard in WoW Goon Squad right after the election because him and his dad were huge Romney supporters and spent tons of hours trying to help his campaign locally. I think about that a lot still because of how funny it was.

Think it was Romney that inspired a tumblr called white people mourning Romney that showcased white people in Americana garb being shocked by the results. Someone else registered another tumblr called black people mourning Romney where it was just a blank page

My understanding is that the 2008 toxxes for McCain had a huge effect on the forum politics. I’ve been told that D&D prior to the 2008 election was hugely libertarian (I wasn’t around back then to see); the fighting over the original Ron Paul R:evil:ution is what led to posters begging Lowtax for a safe forum for libertarians to talk unopposed about things, and so Lowtax set up Laissez Faire, which… did not go as the libertarian posters planned. Then Obama won the election and like 80% of them got banned for McCain toxxes and between that and the legend of Laissez Faire the board went heavily left/leftist as a result.

yeah stupid as hillarymen is, it cannot be laid at the feet of cspam. it started as a #HillaryMen hashtag on twitter for male supporters of hillary. but of course it was immediately picked up by everyone else because it looks so stupid. however it is very weird to be talking about hillarymen like 7 years later lol. elections over man!

idk how true that is, this is going back a long time but "libertarian" was really common prior to like 2008 or so, on basically every board i was on other than SA

i suspect a lot of this is due to internet/social media trending away from being exclusively 35-year-old american engineers or something
