Yeah, it's pretty middle-of-the-road ambient poo poo. Not terrible, not great either. Pretty funny that Eno took an opportunity for the reverse-nepo bump from all the empty-headed Fred fans who are now scratching their heads listening to this album anticipating a beat. A non-zero number of them will come out of this experience thinking they're enlightened because they've experienced one (1) ambient album, though.

Back on topic, I got a ticket to see The Glitch Mob in July. The last time I saw them was at a festival in 2019. Now they're down to 2 members and playing smaller, more intimate clubs than they used to in support of Ctrl Alt Reality.

I heard the audio on the stream was really bad and probably why this took so long to get released. I think they even said last weekend it was coming out and here we are like a week later.

Fred Again... gets a lot of poo poo, deservedly sometimes, but he honestly did great at that Coachella set. I think he's just learning and picking up off Skrillex and Four Tet, which are probably among the 2 greatest peers/mentors you could have.

E: ^^ you're aware that Skrillex basically released one album over a decade prior to this year, yeah? He makes some good stuff but I don't understand where this superstar producer reputation comes from. He couldn't even cobble an hour of music together to tour with when scary monsters broke through. I love his work but c'mon. Excision, for example, has done more to forward that scene by a large margin and has just as good if not better synth and production chops

Coachella looks like a fake music festival they made for an episode of CSI Miami

A significant portion of that decade was spent in a mental health crisis and a battle with alcholism after his Mom died. He genuinely loves electronic music. He did a 5 hour set at red rocks and then unannounced starts spinning at an after hours warehouse party in Denver.

Just look at Skrillex now compared to what he used to look like. Homie went through some wild poo poo and went from malnutrition to fit. When I first saw what he looks like now I didn't know it was him.

He definitely had his battles and as we are seeing, he's returning to where he should be. He's got one of the best albums in 2023 and is selling out historic venues. Headling Coachella with like a weeks notice and a five hour set at Red Rocks? What in the absolute gently caress. And if you watch him, he's clearly having a blast.

I saw Skrillex 3 times at festivals, once in 2012 and once in 2014 and then once in 2015 as Jack U, and he was on fire all 3 of those times. 2012 especially. I remember that show being hype as gently caress. He's been killing it for over a decade now, and now that he's headlining Coachella, he's arguably gotten even bigger.

I wish I could a track list for the set. Usually one gets posted in the comments but I haven't seen one yet. I recognize the big ones obviously. I'd really like a long version of the song that plays at 1:22:15. It's almost like it got queued up and because of time they had to move on, but it was good Skrillex was like "here, check this awesome poo poo out" and we got to hear like 15 seconds of it. I also wanna know whats at 47:40 and later at 52:40, if anyone knows. I've heard both of the songs before and they are like right on the tip of my tongue. I think those are among my 2 favorite songs from the set, but I liked nearly the whole thing.

I'm surprised there isn't a gif of the moment at like 35:45 where they are just singing at each other, but if you wanna see a moment of pure joy on Skrillex, watch the moment at 43:25 where he's like "holy poo poo, what's coming up is about to be fire". Same things happens to Fred around 1:03:10 when he sees Four Tet has Country Riddim queued up. He can't even hide his huge smile, and he tries too.

BTW, yea I've probably watched the set too much, but it was a pretty darn good one. They all looked like they had one of the best moments of their life, which they probably did.

Yeah, I saw him open for Porter too. His live show is fun but seems mostly the same every time. I watched his Coachella performance and it was more or less the same as when I saw him open for Porter a year and a half earlier.

I've heard of it but I don't remember seeing performances from there before. Do many electronic artists play there?

I'm from the US, and having never been to London (beyond a layover at Heathrow airport like 20 years ago), I don't know all their venues :shobon: I know some, like Brixton Academy (because Pendulum filmed a live DVD there) and O2 Academy (where I've seen some live stuff from The Prodigy before) and Printworks (which I've seen some DNB sets from), but yeah, not all of them.

Seeing an EDM act in Royal Albert Hall definitely seems odd to me, but then, my only exposure to RAH (as a fellow American) is, like, the London Pops and classic rock (Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd specifically). So maybe electronic acts are much more common place there than I realize.

Afrojack is playing a 6 hour open to close set at Brooklyn Mirage this Sunday during Memorial Day weekend. If it were a normal 2 hour set, I wouldn’t make the trip up from DC, but I feel like it could be really good? I generally like his festival sets though they do suffer from the usual MainStage pitfalls, but you wouldn’t agree to a 6 hour club set unless you were planning to play some old music and deep cuts.

I wouldn't call it common, and for most EDM acts and DJs that do play there it's a once in a lifetime thing - Bonobo was unique in that he had a five night residency. But I know that Orbital played the RAH in 2012 (after being picked to perform at the Olympic opening ceremony), Pete Tong has gigged there, and Ministry of Sound had have a concert of classic dance hits remade for orchestral support - apparently they take MOS Classical there once a year. There's also the Ibiza Prom from 2015, which can be found in full on the official Radio 1 channel:

The organist at Royal Albert also posted some behind-the-scenes bits, apparently the first four nights the building's organ wasn't part of the show, then they wrote a part between night 4 & 5 and blew everyone's loving minds with it out of nowhere.
