Impeccable work, that’s fabulous

I’m sad I’ve thrown away the plastic trays from the box sets and lance boxes, love the look of painted minis in the box. Makes em look like action figures

You could say the same about UrbanMechs and Demolishers, but that doesn’t make them good.

Savannah Masters are good because they actually have the speed to dictate where their extremely effective Medium Lasers get to be every turn.

AC Karnovs do the same, *and* aren’t completely shut down by woods hexes.
Okay but it's really difficult to deploy one two Urbanmechs per floor of a building.

Oh yeah, I need to get me some Saladins. Proxies, though - the old Ral Partha ones look like rear end.

Related to AC20 chat, Hunchback is one of my favorite mechs currently. To me its main function is less delivering the AC20 to the front line and more drawing fire from everything else because everyone’s brains seem to go into panic mode the moment they see a Hunchback on the table. In my most recent lance vs lance game the Hunchback had my only 4/5 pilot while everything else was 3/5, but my opponent decided to focus his fire solely on the Hunchback because they wanted nothing to do with the AC20 and did their best to remove it - while I focused on grabbing objectives with my other, more mobile mechs.

And that’s kinda my experience in every game I bring a Hunchback to. And I bring one to every game now. Love da Hunchie

Am I missing something about the Backerkit for the kickstarter? I'm getting emails about how salvage boxes aren't working and visigoths weren't available but it worked perfectly for me and as far as I can tell my order has all the ridiculous plastic I'm expecting?

I was having a hard time wrapping my head around those posts as well, but here's what I think they're talking about :

1) I qualified for the free Visigoth but it was not showing up in my list items until AFTER I put my address in and I arrived at the final confirmation screen. It was supposed to show up much earlier, and that is either resolved or irrelevant because it does appear in your cart by the final page.

2) The Force Packs that come as part of your pledge level include the Salvage Box option. It's when you purchase additional Force Packs that the Salvage Box option is unavailable. They've detailed a few work arounds in the updates, such as making sure to take Inner Sphere lances in the pledge options and Clan Stars and vehicles in the Add-Ons to avoid the issue.

That makes a ton more sense. Glad I went with simple options and my add-ons are mostly rulebooks.

That also explains why I couldn't understand why my visigoth numbers were off by one until I did more fiddling.

An acquaintance of mine had an issue with seeing the right number of Visigoths and I just told him to set all his salvage boxen to the Legendary ones, see if one Visigoth was there, and then reset to what he wanted. That somehow made the missing one magically appear.

Quick start BT and AS rules:

BT has been around for going on four decades with only incrimental rules changes, so I'm sure the non-quickstart basic game rules are all over, but afiak technically :filez:

It's basically an "expansion pack" that adds to the core rules and adds some optional ones to resolve combined arms/battlefield support in a more streamlined way. Incomplete in and of itself and not necessary to play bot-on-bot battletech.

The current kickstarter is just an expansion wave for the previous kickstarter. The game has technically never died since it started 40 years ago but it had a soft, mostly aesthetic reboot about 5 years ago with the current product line. The Alpha Strike sister game of Battletech is also exploding in popularity right now.

The Kickstarter is new stuff for the existing game. BattleTech essentially never makes stuff obsolete, just updates the rules in minor ways every so often, so most products are additional new content or reprints of old stuff.

You can get a rulebook from the following sources:

-The "A Game of Armored Combat" box set (standard 'mech rules with introductory equipment)
-The "BattleMech Manual" hardcover or PDF (all the stuff in the box set plus all the standard equipment, plus some advanced stuff and optional rules)
-The "Total Warfare" hardcover or PDF (all the stuff in the box set plus standard equipment, plus rules for the standard non-'mech units: infantry, battle armor, ground vehicles (includes helicopters), aerospace fighters, dropships, small craft, and protomechs)

Completely aware a star is 10 aerospace, I only want 1 point each for my Spirit Cats/Steel Wolves. Imagining an entire star of clan aerospace in an AS game seems a little extreme (Also I have to learn aerospace rules).

The only thing that still confuses me about Clan military organization is Novas and Supernovas (And supernova binaries/trinaries).

A Nova is two stars (Mech/Elemental), and a Supernova is 4 stars (2 mechs/2 Elementals), but a nova binary is also 4 stars I think (2 novas working together), and a Supernova binary is...?

I ASSUME it would be 8 stars (2 supernovas working together), but I just can't figure it out.

Which means a nova trinary is 6 stars, and a supernova trinary is 12 stars, so basically a cluster.

I'm probably wrong.

Where you're falling down is that a Supernova *is* a Nova Binary.

A Supernova Trinary is three Novas, totalling six stars.

Ok, that makes a lot more sense, so when a Keshik has two Supernova Trinaries, we're looking at 12 stars total, basically an oversized cluster. Thanks.

The only difference between a Nova Binary and a Supernova is that some Clans don't like deviating from Kerensky's ~*~vision~*~ and while a Nova Binary led by a Star Captain is fine, a Supernova led by a Nova Captain is just taking the piss. They are otherwise identical, and it's just some nice fluff to explain why Clan A hates Clan B.

I think you get less atmospheric levels than you get building levels once you leave the mapsheet, and it messes with range, but you do raise an intriguing tactical option.

The "reboot" is less about new fancy rules and more about miniatures. The first kickstarter was the first range of nice plastic minis for Battletech, which turned out to make the game a lot more popular all of a sudden. How odd!

This second kickstarter is mainly about expanding that range further. There are more things too, yes, but it's mainly plastic crack.

I don't think it's that far off. A lot of the art shows BattleMechs as being way too big compared to scenery and the vehicle minis tend to be way too small compared to the BattleMech ones. If a person is supposed to be a little shorter than the door on the train then that seems nearly right.
