It's true that Tom Cruise Iron Man would've saved MoM. The Illuminati we got was lame.

I'd say the combination of Captain Carter, Anson Mount, and Patrick Stewart with the musical stinger from the X-Men cartoon was worthwhile for nostalgia/callback points. Until Jim from the Office showed up and shat on it all.

They went to nerd with it, with the guy from the show nobody watched and a popular fancasting. Plus Krasinski was confusing (as Olsen can attest). Moreso than Cruise, Craig would've been really effective since he was more Avenger adjacent.

Do you wanna get into more why he was such an awful presence for you? He just seemed like an exposition bot with a constipated look to me but I'm always down for people making GBS threads on CIA Krasinkski

I don't have weird hangups about actors from old tv shows (or new ones I barely know exist) or ones with famous older siblings or parents or some weird casting rumor from a decade ago so I just thought the Illuminati was a fun little thing.

Cause those movies weren't popular.

Whoever it was should've had some gravitas. Strange starts clowning on Reed immediately and he just takes it.

Black Bolt wasn't leading the team. They treated him like a blunt object. The main guy needed some presence.

All for a Easter egg only serious MCU nerds are going to get. And even then still not an Agents of SHIELD reference.

Rewatching the Spider-Man movies, those work because there's a lot of Raimi in there. There's a decent amount in MoM but would they really let him make an Avengers movie his own?

I just caught a bit of the 2007 Ghost Rider and it’s astonishing how cheap and crappy it looks, considering it had a $110m budget. By comparison, Iron Man came out a year later, only had a slightly higher budget ($140m) and still looks great.

Marvel just posted a conversation between Feige and Favreau about the 15th anniversary of Iron Man and they mentioned that Favreau got the job because he knew how to use special effects.

Favreau also said they had previously talked to RDJ about Doctor Doom and Feige played dumb.
