The bank/payment scam things is real important. If you ever get an email about something with your bank account being messed up, never click any links. Open a new browser window and go directly to your bank's website and log in there, and then verify any information from the email. There are all kinds of tricks they can do with email and url spoofing to make things seem real. Never trust a link in an email. The same goes for any email where it says "thanks for purchasing an iphone, here is your invoice, no payment necessary." These are scams to scare you into thinking someone used your card or your account to buy something expensive. The scam is that you call them all upset about this purchase and they say "Oh no problem, let me just cancel that order and refund you, OH NO! Sir I seem to have refunded you too much money, I am in big trouble. I need you to go to Target and buy gift cards and send me the codes to reverse the refund I gave you." If you think something fucky happened with your money, always go directly to your bank and check there first. If there's no charge for whatever it is they say you bought, then it's not real.

On the topic of security, most important accounts will let you enable something called 2FA (also called MFA), which stands for two-factor authentication. It means that when you login with a username and password you'll also have to input a secret code from your phone, either sent to you by text message or generated by an app. Using 2FA makes it significantly harder to get hacked, because even if someone got your password, they'd still need your physical phone to access your account. There are some downsides to 2FA, but for anything that has access to your bank or credit card details it's a good idea.

Hello friend, please tell me about restrictions during parole. You said that you have a phone, and that's good. I understand that voting and running for office are probably not available. How about bank accounts, credit cards, driver' license, and eligibility to rent? Any good updates about that job opportunity?

It does, however, seem like more of a bitch to make than simply making a microwave mug cake or doing a no-bake cheesecake. my prison did not have central air conditioning in some parts of the compound. my unit didn't. the region i was in could get hot as gently caress but the winters were more on the mild side but we did have very cold snaps at times. generally the temperature inside was anywhere from 70 or a little below, to 85+. it hit well over 100 many times, like 115 for sure. we were issued a jacket and wool cap and a wool blanket and we could order thermal underwear from the commissary. when it was really hot we just sat in our cells in underwear or nothing at all. the guards would move us around in small groups when it was very hot. the groups that played nice together would go to an air conditioned area to cool off, then another group would rotate in. harveys zoo zoos fucked around with this message at 16:08 on May 28, 2023 |

someone asked about people being released only to come back soon after. yes that happened many times. in fact i had a bunkie for 4 years who was in for armed robbery. we got along ok and i was happy to see him get released. well about 6 months later he was back for the same offense. he was still there when i left. someone else asked about a scared straight program. my facility didn't have that. i kinda wished we did because i would have participated as a mentor. i'm sure those programs are not very successful though.

sorry i am having trouble finding the posts of some questions that have been asked so i can't quote them. but someone asked about musical instruments. some people played the skin flute hahaha we had an education building that had art and craft supplies and also musical instruments. we could either play those in the music room or rent them to take to our cell. during my time we had several bands form. but, any violent offenders like me were not allowed to have anything with a string like a guitar or violin because the strings could be used to strangle someone. sometimes the strings were stolen to use for making things or as a tattoo needle. we had a lot of rappers who recorded stuff over the pay phone for their producer or whoever. i know of a few recordings that were released but i don't know if they were successful. as for art, there were some really talented painters and sculptors there. we had one guy named griggs who could draw or paint just about anything you asked. i had two of his small 6x6 paintings. one was of a sailboat on a stormy sea the other was a mountain background with a giraffe grazing. i really wish i could draw or something so it would pass the time but that's what my books were for.

Loving this thread, hope you're enjoying your holiday weekend! Seconding all the people who mentioned pro wrestling - it's in a great place now in terms of exciting and unique in-ring product though it's much less culturally relevant than it was in the 80s or 90s. Definitely check out AEW Dynamite on TBS on Wednesdays! It has spectacular action and a cool old school presentation, compared to WWE (what WWF changed their name to after a lawsuit from the World Wildlife Fund) and their overproduced glitz and glamor. Lots of video screens. The cool thing is that wrestling is more accessible than ever and with the Peacock app you can watch old WWF from back in the day with a push of a button. Wrestling has become much more of an athletic showcase but you'll always have colorful characters. Got any ideas for cat names, or is it the case of the shelter picking the name out?

Arcades are either basically kid casino fun zones (which are ok but limiting) or more specialized ones with Japanese games (which kick rear end - see if a Round1 is near you!). As said, more old school games are usually found in bars or you can buy miniature ones at Walmart and similar which are pretty fun too. Enjoy the D&D movie! I thought it was great and would love to know about your theater experience.

Welcome to the outside, Harv. My cat adoption advice as someone who's raised several cats is kittens are assholes and someone's going to adopt them one way or the other. Get a chill older cat. How do you avoid falling in with a gang? I'm sure not being a racist piece of poo poo helps your standing with the non-whites but I imagine there are people on all sides who don't give a gently caress. Race relations in prison sound terrifying.

I agree with getting an adult cat. All kittens are nuts and you never know how they will be as adults. If you can get a chill, adult cat, you know it likely won't be going nuts and destroying all your stuff. Plus, people don't tend to adopt adults cats, so it's nice to give them a home.

Sounds like his friend, Lamar, was a big part of both teaching him the ropes and making sure his head stayed on straight. Hey, Harvey,; just wanted to let you know that you're playing a dangerous game using your real name. You've done wonderful keeping certain information close to the chest, and you should absolutely keep it that way. There's a thing called "doxing" these days where people and robots try to get your personal information for a variety of reasons. *personal info removed pending review* You shouldn't share that poo poo either. I already have the feds watching me, so I couldn't care less. State police and the FBI both are aware of my activities, and they're even tracking my ex-wife. poo poo sucks, but what are you gonna do? Don't know if you recall how one of my nicknames was "Podfather," but that was when I was in the low security wing of the county jail (basically like daycare for adults) and I risked spending a week in solitary for first bitching out the guards over intercom for sarcastically making GBS threads on the only older black man in our group that *everyone* respected, then telling off the guy they sent to shut me down. They were in the wrong, they disrespected him, and I refused to back down on his behalf. The nickname was a half-condescending joke, but also half respectful. You know how it goes, yeah? *Edit* yes, my really real name is "Jim Bob". gently caress everyone who gives a poo poo. My addresses is also *personal info removed pending review* and my trailer door is never unlocked. I have nothing worth stealing except for maybe a cheap tv that I have actively been trying to get rid of. Living your real life free of worries is the greatest thing you can ever do. So, uh, basically don't do what I just did. I got nothing to lose and am already being monitored, so I don't give a poo poo. But, seriously, keep that sorta poo poo close to the chest. And if anyone feels like robbing me, send me an email in advance and I'll probably freely give you anything you're interested in. Better than risking breaking and entering charges. I'm ridiculously reasonable these days.

Apparently a fun way to scam idiots is they’ll get you on the phone claiming they’re from the bank or whatever and there’s an issue. And guess what they’re so good about your account safety they’re gonna send a special code to your cellphone for you to read back and confirm it’s you before they discuss more! What nice guys. In reality they’re at a computer trying to log into your account and triggering the 2 factor authentication text. Then when you give it to them they frantically log in and gently caress your poo poo up. My friend worked in the fraud department at a bank and this was surprisingly common.
