Not having new maps is the primary reason both myself and my friend have bounced from the game at this point. I don't disparage people that are ok with playing the same maps over and over but it's not for us.

Edit - We did play a couple rounds recently and it's still a good time though!

One of the best aspects of Vermintide/Darktide is the strength of the AI Director mixing things up to keep levels varied and interesting. Aside from a few predictable setpiece events, you really don’t know what’s going to be around each corner or whether you’re about to be be hit with an ambush swarm. Every map has huge replayability.

Sounds tedious and unfun for Darktide imo. Mutant is just an even nastier charger and had to be literally programmed to not throw you out of a level cause that's so strong and the amount of mutants that gets thrown at you on higher difficulties. And imagine giving any of the specialists human controlled movement lol, or a human controlled Sniper.

There's no way that they'd be able to balance that and I really wouldn't want Fatshark to have to, they already struggle as is to bug fix and balance the game at a decent rate without adding in player controlled heretics.

My fondest memory of L4D was catching a straggler as they left their spawn room, as the undead with the long tongue. 3 of them had jumped down a hole and I caught the 4th where they couldn't help him

The fact that Darktide doesn't have a PvP mode is what lets Fatshark be much less conservative with special design and make them more fun IMO.

I disagree, but outside games specifically made for PVP I'm not really a fan of competitive modes in PvE games in general. Having to pit yourself against other humans can be satisfying, but is way more tiring lol.

Just wanna turn my brain off and purge some heretics in Darktide lol. For the record I've put as much if not more hours into Darktide in a fraction of the time it took me to get there for Deep Rock Galactic, an also fun game. The sheer visceral feel of Darktide carries the game massively and imo they probably wouldn't have had the same feel if they had to incorporate PvP somehow.

Lemme spitball some major issues for this real quick since a theoretical pvp mode at least tickles the creative bits. Assuming players would get control of the specialists and other human sized enemies, maybe ogryns at the largest, but not be able to control monsters-

First issue I can think of: Volley Fire, and Veteran as a whole. An entire class built around "delet this" even at extreme ranges, and has literal wall hacks every time they ult so they immediately eliminate any ability to hide or surprise a team with one. There would probably be ways to design around this but I can already imagine it would be intensely frustrating to just get deleted as soon as you rounded a corner before closing distance.

Speaking of "delet this", there's Psyker with their unlimited supply of Brain Bursts, an ability that auto-locks and go away if you break LoS. Any human sized enemies that aren't Ragers or Maulers die instantly to this even on 5s, with only chunkier targets requiring multiple. Surge staff also exists so enjoy getting stunlocked at close range, and the insane amount of CC in general that Psyker gets access to.

Another big one! CC, there's a lot of it in the game and generally players don't get the worst of it, the enemies do. For players it's an obvious punishment for making mistakes in most scenarios, but for enemies it's the norm to get CC'd by the rejects as it's one way of managing enemies of all sizes. Imagine being first person and having to deal with some of the stagger reactions, an obvious solution would be to play in third person but you'd really lose a lot of the fun of playing first person imo. A swap between third and first person would be pretty jarring as well, it's already bad enough when you're downed or hard cc'd by a dog/mutant/trapper.

Final thing which is mostly personal thing- you wouldn't get the same hit reactions, ridiculous prat falls, or crazy gore effects that you cause as the rejects, so a large portion of the great game feel Darktide boasts is just gone.


IMO L4D works much better PVP because it's got a simpler game flow and not as many fiddly bits to account for. Every weapon has set stats and players don't have any character progression that needs to be accounted for. Far easier to balance around, and map design makes more of a difference along with coordination being the biggest deal for zed players. And even than equally competent players on each side meant that the survivors would 90% of the time.

A better comparison would be B4B where weapons can have vastly different stats and characters have pretty insane progression and builds they can do, the PvP mode in that was an entirely different experience from what I heard because it'd be impossible to balance around the base game. Also fell kinda flat? I know they did a number of decently sized overhauls to it and even then most of the zombie side gameplay was just spamming certain specials with specific builds cause nothing else was as effective lol.



tl;dr- lots of words about why Darktide should just stay PvE only because clearly Fatshark needs to cater to my interests alone!!!

I needed to answer a question for myself and punish myself with a mind numbing task. So here how long it takes to break a Damnation Vortex shield (assassination boss shield) with various weapons.
Done in the Meat Grinder on Damnation setting with the mob spawner mod.
You can assume any weapon was minimum 350 stats with appropriate dump stat. There aren't many Ogryn weapons as I haven't been playing mine that much so I lack gear and resources on him.
Also, the heavy attacks were "light" heavies where I only charged up long enough to trigger a heavy attack. An exception to this was when I grabbed numbers for Thrust. Those were fully charged heavies. So I'll have to try fully charged heavies later.


TL:DR
- Antax/Rashad are king with the fastest light and heavy times of 12 seconds and 16 seconds respectively.
- For Ogryn, Bull Cleaver 3 light spam is 15 seconds. Not sure if it's the best overall as I didn't try much else for Ogryn melee.
- A Power Sword Mk 3 (the original) might have the best heavy attack time with Power Cycler 4. Power Cycler 3 already gave it 17 seconds.
- Flamer has a decent enough time that it's a reasonable action to use it to horde clear and hit the Scab boss simultaneously.

Versus in L4D and L4D2 was amazing. Fatshark should not attempt to put a similar mode into DT or VT2.

I do wonder what took them so long to add the chaos spawn to the game, seems like the majority of the work was done in vermintide.

So, the new recolor cosmetics cost over a million credits, but what you are paying for is volume apparently.

You can see in your loadout screen and the store what blessings are on it and whether or not you have it. Unless you mean just see the fully library of what you have then yeah, it's just Hadron.

There is a magnifier icon indicator on the blessings that tells you if you have it ripped or not. The sword you posted had the indicator on both blessings. When you own the blessing, the magnifier icon will disappear and the blessing icon will become more solid in color.

when you're in the store you can tell if you have it or not in-game. If you're using the armoury extension fair enough, but you're really only looking for specific blessings for most weapons anyway. :shrug:

You can also get a mod that unlocks all the hidden blessings you havent earned on the re-bless screen so you know what ones you're missing.

BTW the new map is great! The middle "challenge" is a gauntlet through a maze of passageways with a new music track going and the end arena is a follow the servo skull investigation through the archives where you're scanning cogitators followed by a defense of a script servitor writing a scroll.

Entire map looks gorgeous, theres a lot of really sick lighting effects and its very "vertical" as you wind down these giant spiraling staircases.

new map is good mostly - also best mid-map event. Found the chaos spawn to be not as great... just the plague ogryn on speed, bit too much the same. Dunno if Ogryn can properly stun it or so at least that would add some tactics to it.
