Meme currencies are all the rage in the speculative end of crypto. Classic pyramid schemes. Meanwhile people are actually dicking around with the web3/blockchain stuff and building interesting poo poo with it. Turns out having a public database that no one can unilaterally gently caress with is highly useful. You can use it as a point of identification, a locker for interesting bits of data or similar tasks. They're using it in Ethopia to ID students and teachers for the first time in ever. And the nice thing is the big currencies that power these blockchains are more stable because the speculation has moved to the mem currencies so ppl can actually use the tech and not have worry about a Musk or a Murdoch causing a currency run and effectively pricing out your operations. The current crypto scene reminds me a lot of the post dot com era when businesses started to move away from the mindset "website creates money by existing" and started asking realistic questions like "ok but how?" and hiring and firing accordingly. I started my computer touchin career when a lot of bullshit shamans were getting let loose and watching these dudes fail basic tasks was really educational. Like documenting stuff so when said poo poo shaman blames you, you can quote chapter and verse on why they suck. Anyway, that's too much effort. Musk sucks farts.
