I'm surprised the wood pigeons survived. Do falcons not know how to kill without swooping down and surprise attacking their prey?

Specialized predators like falcons and cheetahs are typically pretty :effort: when they're not hunting. Hunting takes a lot of energy, why waste it fighting something that's almost as big as you, when you're not able to utilize your best weapons and advantages?

The falcon has attacked the pigeons but it doesn't seem to have deterred them.

It's okay if you have any questions.

Birds of prey are incredibly stupid. All of their brainpower goes towards visual processing and there's none left over for planning or thinking.

I was watching simpsons at 0.75 without knowing until a scene where homer and bart were getting back massages at a hotel and the noises they were making were super drawn out like a youtube poop
The pigeons are just going to try building a nest on the falcon.

You'd think falcons would be sorta smarter. They're not related to other birds of prey and share more ancestry with songbirds and parrots

Thank you! Now I don’t have to Google. I’ve never seen that bird before! I learned about something new!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTEujBZRLwo

The lady I live with has 40 year old parrot. He is curmudgeon, but has been perking up since I’ve been giving him new snacks that he’s never had before, like popcorn.

Anyway, I was waiting for the dogs to finish eating the other day so I could put them outside and go pick up my prescriptions (she was out of town) and decided to play with a yo-yo in the another room where he could see me, since I wasn’t playing with it to entertain him. It blew his loving mind! He thought I was performing sorcery.

I’ve let him inspect both yo-ups and watch from the same room and his amazed rants aren’t nearly as long, but he still yells at me to come back when I go out of sight after playing with a yo-yo.

Anyway, just thought I’d share.

Exploration is ill-advised.
Something similar with dogs who can't be unsupervised around certain kinds of people, trauma and socialisation gone weird.

It's the time of year here in Ireland when the bluetit fledglings leave the nest.
They are extremely small, silly and chatty, so once you recognise their call, you hear them absolutely everywhere.

They say "tschee tschee BOO", and they hang around with their parents and siblings, so you'll see upwards of 10 bluetits in a single tree.

I love them so much :3:

My old cockatiel was same with regard to bopping rather than biting, and I choose to believe it was because she was too sweet and gentle to bite anyone. :colbert:
