It was a facetious question. The venomous animals are all timid and/or live where people don't (in the desert or in the warmer seas). The Sydney funnel-web spider bites rather than retreating but has killed all of 13 people, none of those since the development of the antivenom in 1981.

i think they throw the kid to the other boat because they know they will most likely capsize getting off the rock, and its safer for the kid not to go in the water.

I think that your particular throwing form is kind of a secondary consideration to "hurling your child over a raging river" when it comes to safety.

If you’re at the point where you’re considering throwing a child, you should probably reconsider everything that’s led you up to that moment.

Especially if throwing the kid is the best course of action.

I think in general throwing a child (vs giving them a boost as they jump) is not a great idea as they may not brace their bodies against the acceleration and deceleration.

The specific form on display has the kid’s head very exposed as they spin, making a head impact or wrench on the neck with deceleration more likely to my eyes

When you're white water rafting you grab people out of the water by their life vests. For the same reason that you don't grab a person directly out of water, he was probably right that was the most reliable way to get them to the other boat.

You're both soaking wet and your hands will likely slip.

Also they were definitely flipping off that rock. Whether the child should have been there in the first place v:shepface:v

Looks like the kid was stranded, the rescuing boat got pushed into the rocks, and they couldn't risk getting free with the kid onboard.

Yeah my understanding is the reason there's actually so few deaths attributed to the blue ring octopus is people usually aren't in their environment and when we are, they're actually very docile. They have the confidence of knowing their bite makes things go the gently caress away, after all. That's probably why the person in the gif could handle that one at all and be fine, the octopus was curious, not feeling threatened. That said, it's not a good idea to handle them at all because the consequences for missing their distress signal is so severe. I dunno what waving a citrus fruit around them was supposed to accomplish, either.

So basically animals like blue-ringed octopi are given warnings disproportionate to their actual recorded human death count because part of the way that death count is kept low is if people know not to play with them if they notice one of the octopi nearby. It's also specifically a bite that does it and their mouth is hidden under their body, you're not going to get bitten just swimming by one.
