Between the LIDAR scanner and dual depth cameras, showing off app panels and virtual characters going behind real-world objects, giving app panels fake shadows based on real lighting, and talking about mapping the room with sound, I suspect they're going hard on having an accurate virtual model of your real environment being an inherent part of how everything works from day 1. That might be the one key new thing they're really bringing to the table.

The term is funny to me because that's just Apple not wanting to say virtual reality or augmented reality, that's too geek/nerdy terms for them. They are above that. This is a LIFESTYLE device, for cool attractive people.Totally different.

The only mention of gaming at all was "choose from 100 games on Apple Arcade." They were using a Playstation controller in the NBA 2k23 example.

lmao thank god it has apple pay. Now I can finally buy costco hot dogs in style

Goddamn, this whole presentation is just a very slicked up remix of the very bad Meta Quest Pro reveal. “We partnered with Microsoft and Zoom to bring you the experiences you already hate on your laptop”.

Even if Steve Apple was still alive, I think he’d have a hard time deploying a reality field distortion strong enough to make this a mass market success with these features, no controllers, and an rear end clenching price point. I guess we’ll see.

You aren't going to run x86 stuff on an ARM chip in any case.

I'm not seeing anything that would get in the way of somebody making a Virtual Desktop-equivalent app for this, though.
