Yeah, probably. That's how it works in D3 and Path of Exile at least. Seasonal characters will presumably get booted to live alongside them on the "Eternal" server as each season ends.

I think you might be confusing battle pass and seasons. Seasonal characters are made for the season and kept afterwards while the battle pass is a buy in cosmetics grind. Neither one affects current characters.

I got disconnected on my sorc and kept getting an error when trying to reconnect, so I tried logging in on my low level rogue and got in. I decided to bop around doing whispers to get from 15 to 20. This poo poo is nutty. Twisting Blades deletes everything. I’m three shotting elites and taking all of the trash mobs out with it. Does this build have a weakness? It feels a little squishy but that hasn’t been a factor since everything just dies.

It will be the same as Diablo ladder seasons. New realm launches with the seasonal gimmick, at the end all characters get moved back to the main Eternal server.

I kinda don't get how seasonal characters are worth the bother when it just ties into cosmetics, but I've never played an arpg as a forever game. I usually just play through with a couple classes and call it.

Like in wow seasons are tied into gearing up for a new raid even if the mythics are recycled content, but the seasonal changes in arpgs seem pretty minor.

The most fun of ARPGs is often gearing up in the early/middle stages. Ladders/seasons are a nice "excuse" to do that again.

Typically it's some combination of unlockable cosmetics, season-locked gear that allows you to put together some weird builds that wouldn't otherwise be possible, potentially fun gimmicks (PoE is kinda the gold standard for this, but D3 had a few fun ones too), and just having the chance to run through fresh again, which is probably more of a draw for people who put the game down for a while.

edit: And yeah secretly the most fun part of every ARPG is the early game before you lock into your build and start doing the same thing for the next hundred hours.

Well this is hosed up. I can't actually enter Alzuuda. First time I tried I got a consistent CTD. I tried repairing files, that didn't fix it. Start the game right from the point of my last crash, take a step into Alzuuda, CTD.

Restarted, and this time once the game loaded instead of moving anywhere I TPed back to my previous waypoint, and then back to Alzuuda. Now I can run a bit into the town without crashing, and now I hit an invisible wall and can't move into the town itself. I just watched a guy run past me into the town and as soon as he crossed the point I'm stuck at he disappeared from my screen. What the gently caress.

Also there is a bug where if you upgrade an item with crit on it, there is a chance the crit chance goes down instead of up.
If you upgrade through an item level break point, I believe it rerolls some or all stats.

D3 did seasonal gimmicks to jazz things up. First few were boring but then they started adding in mega multiplier items like gems or imbues that defined builds.

Plus they did balance passes each season so the meta evolved over time.

Should note by balance pass I mean buffing underperforming builds and rarely nerfing. Yes you get power creep but critting for trillions owned.

There's a sidequest that sends you to a hosed up fort in the swamp (it might be the one you also go to in the story for other reasons, I haven't actually done it yet, just saw where it was sending me) and they mention that a crusader name Johanna went out there to try and retake it but disappeared. Johanna was the name of the Crusader hero in Heroes of the Storm, that's the hardest of times, being whisked away to fight in the now dead moba.

Johanna, in my head canon, was the PC crusader who ascended to godhood under the teachings of Zultan Kulle.

I liked D2x and POE back when I had time to play video games. Now I can't really sit at a computer for the extended periods of time necessary to have fun in these games (or to even finish a league really in POE.) The kids these days seem to be talking about a Steamdeck as a way to do this stuff without sitting. Does D4 run well on one? How are the controls? Coming from keyboard and mouse gaming I'm having trouble imagining an interface that's conducive to a handheld controller.

I would be buying a steamdeck just for D4 more or less. I don't have a desktop computer running windows these days.

There's a lot to do and I like so much of it but this character sucks for having to rely on the 60 second Unstable Currents CD. If I fight without it I'm just kiting around waiting to get enough resource to pop off a single chain lightning cast that doesn't do much damage.

I can't manage to target the aspects I need to make this build usable with tree of whispers, if I take a weapon cache I get a legendary helm or something and that feels not great.
Should I just keep banging on renown to get the Paragon points? Start doing enough helltides that I can enchant something into being usable? Roll a ww barb and hope I can get back to 50 before they get nerfed again?

It runs great after a bit of weirdness to get it set up. The controls are just like console controls. I don't love it for my bone spear Necro because I want too much aim control for both spear lineup and which corpse I'm exploding, but I'm playing a flurry rogue on the steam deck and it's great for that.

I am only getting about 2 hours of battery life out of it before I have to plug it in, which is not great but kind of on par with performance in other AAA games

wrt time commitment, this game is great for that. it has a bit more "meat" than D3 but it's still a pretty casual game and not an addiction simulator like other ARPGs.

i just hope they keep it like this and don't start bloating it up with unnecessary systems and mechanics just to artificially extend play time.

You have direct control over the character with the left stick, which is probably better than click to move for getting out of poison and poo poo without accidentally clicking on an enemy, but I find it harder to aim attacks that require a bunch of precision, so I tend to like more aoe or melee stuff with the controller, and then it's just a button for each of the 6 skills and you can remap those to your liking.

It's pretty good though and if your aren't a huge mouse and keyboard snob any class or build works well enough

Enos Shenk

I just with sorc felt better. It was always my favorite class, and it seems like you get forced into 2 builds that don't suck. Fire is so amazingly awful, I even saved up a bunch of items that boosted fire skills and damage and it still felt shockingly weak. I'd been rolling lightning, but I hit one of those slowdowns where you're not getting jack for suitable gear so I swapped over to frost and I'm just mowing fuckers down.

Ran across Butcher in the most bullshit dungeon I'd seen. The place was full of multiple elite packs on top of each other, packs of elite grizzly bears in narrow cooridors so you couldn't dodge, then suprise Butcher in a narrow rear end hallway. He handed me my rear end, I did like 20% damage to him.

I might just have to bump down to T1 until I get some gear that actually works well together, I really don't want to though. I don't think I've gotten a single legendary for lightning anything. A bunch of fire spec stuff which gently caress off game, you're not fooling me again. I've tried that poo poo three times.

Nightmare dungeon question(s):

I'm lv 56 and can push at least into mid-60s, but is there an advantage to doing that over just smashing lv 59 (+3 lvs for the xp bonus)? It's only ilvl that goes up, right? Not unique/leggo chance? Seems to me that well rolled legendaries or simply leveling up for paragon points will help me push faster into t4 (and ancestral) than some possibly higher ilvl gear that might have poo poo rolls anyway. I 1-shot an elite with deathblow in a lv 59 dungeon today, owned. But I haven't even tried the capstone yet though.

For goons who have pushed into t4: What are the requirements for uber lilith? I really like the idea of an uber boss to beat where I can call a character "done" (like killing hell baal in d2) rather than an endless grind I eventually get bored of.
