I'm behind as hell on ONE because I was busy yesterday, but: Must-see fight from Friday Fights: Saenphon (56-10) vs. Gokhan “The Beast” Boran (28-10) (MT 147) 51:10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJQl9-Qicak&t=3070s Rest of the report: https://bocot.substack.com/p/one-friday-fights-20-2023-06-09 Show was one of the best yet, and the first MMA fight on the show was actually good.

I missed One yesterday, but thanks for posting the links both when it's on, and the good fights to check out after. I've basically stopped watching UFC, but still like my combat sports. e: From the fight above: https://i.imgur.com/LKSbcOv.mp4 Kragger99 fucked around with this message at 17:12 on Jun 10, 2023 |

Yahoo's article had a great line quote:The incident is McGregor's second known KO since 2016, a span of time in which he has fought only four times in the UFC with one win over the aging Donald Cerrone. McGregor has not fought since a disastrous rematch against Dustin Poirier in which he broke his tibia in the first round. lol

I know there's a UFC PPV on tonight, but if you're looking for something else (or reading this tomorrow or whatever), last week K-1 ran a traditional one night Grand Prix, and the fights got posted on Youtube today. Here are the links for the full tournament if you just want that classic kickboxing action: AZABU PRESENTS K-1 WORLD GP 2023 ~First Middleweight Championship Tournament~ Middle Title Tournament Reserve Fight: Aqil Bukhari (5-2-1, 4 KO) vs. Tomoki Yoshino (7-2, 5 KO) (165) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOT43c-sZTY Middle Title Tournament First Round (1): Katsuya Jinbo (15-7-1, 8 KO) vs. Li Hui (18-5, 5 KO) (165) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg-ZwG_jlAo Middle Title Tournament First Round (2): Danilo Zanolini (44-13, 24 KO) vs. Hasan Toy (44-12, 8 KO) (165) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWKndUejL80 Middle Title Tournament First Round (3): Shintaro Matsukura (34-17, 18 KO) vs. Vinicius Dionizio (15-5, 9 KO) (165) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycNXLov1A5w Middle Title Tournament First Round (4): Mustapha Haida (54-11-2, 25 KO) vs. MIKE JOE (10-6-5, 5 KO) (165) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDqcc0a100k Middle Title Tournament Semi-Final (1) Middle Title Tournament Semi-Final (2) Middle Title Tournament Final In all the years of K-1 they've never had a middleweight champion (165 lb), so this is the first title and one of these guys will win 3 fights in one night to earn it. Almost all the fights are really good, well worth your time. Why did they make the poster such that they all look 50 years old. Or is that just the truth?

Definitely a bad filter, but they are older-ish as a field, especially considering that K-1's major thrust is "find the next unbeatable 22 year old Japanese boy." For example, 22-year-old champion Toma Kuroda's non-title opponent in the one of the superfights near the top of the card is Ramadan Ondash, a 16-year-old boy from Lebanon that is only 3-0. No idea how they found him. Katsuya Jinbo (15-7-1, 8 KO) 27 years old Li Hui (18-5, 5 KO) 28 years old Danilo Zanolini (44-13, 24 KO) 42 years old, and the promos for the show billed this as his last shot at a big run, his first two K-1 fights were in 2010 and he was the first RISE welter champion in 2013 Hasan Toy (44-12, 8 KO) 29 years old Shintaro Matsukura (34-17, 18 KO) 31 years old Vinicius Dionizio (15-5, 9 KO) 31 years old Mustapha Haida (54-11-2, 25 KO) 34 years old MIKE JOE (10-6-5, 5 KO) the show is taking place on his 36th birthday

It's incredibly rare that a fighter actually goes out on top, and it's beyond rare that a fighter goes out on top surrounded by their seemingly healthy, well-adjusted family all happily partying with them on their way.

I figured Dana would close down W145 as soon as I saw her lay down her gloves and belt. Cool way to go out for sure. W135 could be fun if Valentina decides to jump up too right?

While she hasn't spoken about retirement she's 35, has had almost 90 professional fights and turned pro all the way back in 2003 - that's not a typo either - she was 15 fighting grown rear end women and she seemed to be slowing down a little bit in her last couple. She's still good enough to potentially regain her title but I wouldn't be surprised to see her retire soon as well.

I'd rather see them keep w145 if for no other reason than it will take pressure off of weight cutting in all women's divisions. Let the division get its feet under it without the heavy pressure of a dominant, scary champ up there. Make a champ, put money on being champ, and fighters will follow.

It would be nice, but unfortunately almost every women's 145er who's gotten cut from the UFC in the past year has gone on to say 'yeah they were constantly pressuring me to drop to 135' so I think that ship has sailed.
