Honestly, I'd say the Punisher is the most fitting superhero to have a legacy where when the current Punisher falls, somebody else picks up the mantle.

This was also back when Doctor Light was an ineffectual loser who kept getting beat up by kids (the Titans), until Brad Meltzer thought it'd be cool to turn him into a rapist and murderer in Identity Crisis fifteen years later.
