I am currently using monitors or headphones for models, with a cab sim. The monitors + cab sim have done the a better job of replicating in the room feel from the tonemaster twin reverb than the GTX 100.. which sort of unexpected to me. I would plug into the tone master 'return' but it doesn't exist. t hanks fender

GTX loop isn't a full range setup so won't sound as open as headphones or FRFR monitors, no. Not sure about the loop routing on that amp but possible there is a cab sim after the FX return too - useful if you want it to be an FX loop but not if you want it as an Aux In.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they (including tonemasters) have some cab modeling and then some sort of room sim model reverb even with physical cabs otherwise I don't think these model amps would sound right at low volume since they're often emulating very loud tube amps

Diabetes, you are not invited to my pizza party.
I’m also running plugins into real pedals into GTX100 effects return. From what I can tell the cab sim in the GTX100 is before the loop, so it’s just a big speaker at that point with no additional coloring or simming.

I don’t have a mic to record it like that but it sounds good to me. I’m using the mixwave Milkman and Benson Chimera amp/cab sims, but it reacts the way the gtx100 running its own sims reacts.

Gonna eat so many goddamn crumpets.
Finally decided to pull the trigger on the Nashville Player Plus Telecaster, which just kept feeling the best in my hands as I went around to different places trying out guitars:

Found a used one in Aged Candy Apple Red at a local Guitar Center barely looks like it's been used. Feels nice in the hands, sounds great, the noiseless pickups seem pretty noiseless to me, and having the push-pull on the tone knob to give the bridge/neck pickup combo (as well as all three at once) gives some nice flexibility with tones.

Buying a used guitar at Guitar Center always feels a little spinning the wheel of fortune and who knows what will come up in terms of a case. The guy who helped me pulled it up on the computer and was like "Oh look, it comes with a case! Let's see what it is." and then after a few minutes he comes walking out from the back with a Fender Classic Series Wood Case that looks pristine:

Feels like some dentist bought this guitar and the hard case, used it once, and then handed it back in to Guitar Center. Makes for a happy New Guitar Day.

Just got home after a show. Got the post show glow going on, smoking a joint on my deck.

It went great but the best part was after the show 3 of us in the band walked across the street and ordered a bomb rear end pizza and sat outside and ate it.

Those are the moments I missed the most about being in a band. Like, I’m not gonna remember nailing take me to the river. But I’ll probably never forget eating that pizza with Patrick and Dave, just shooting the poo poo at midnight outside the bar.

Have I got a headache!
I noticed today that my Blues Jr sounded like poo poo and wouldn't you know it, one of the tubes got all smashed. I've never replaced tubes before, is there anything to it or is it just like screwing in a lightbulb?

I see that a lot of people have a lot of opinions about which tubes to run, do any of you guys have a set that you like? Also I bought this amp at a thrift store and I don't know what kind of shape the rest of them are in, would it be worth it to change them all out with fresh ones or am I fine to just keep replacing if/as they break?

Use gloves to remove the smashed one, because sharp bits, but it's just plug and play to replace. DON'T SCREW THEM they push-fit into the bases.

Replacing them depends on if it was a preamp or power tube. If it was a power tube and you don't know how old the other one is to start with then you're probably better off replacing both with a matched set. Preamps you'll be fine just replacing one.

If it's one of the smaller preamp tubes you just swap it out like a light bulb. If it's one of the larger power tubes then you should replace them both at the same time. The Blues Jr is fixed bias so just swap them out together, if they are the issue. No need to rebias.

My amp that just almost combusted is a knockoff blues Junior, I replaced the power tubes with a pair of sovtek EL84’s today and it sounds a lot better than when it was all hosed up so I could recommend those. Still have the bug now to search for a good Roland chorus type clean solid state amp but can at least wait till I’m not broke now that my mono price box is alive again

Has anyone here ever bought a guitar from Amazon?

I am interested in a White Fender Mustang 90. There are none in this color on reverb, I can't find any on google, and there are two on ebay at like $1000 used.

Somehow, there are eight on Amazon at around $700 new. link.

I have never bought a guitar on Amazon before, and if this is indeed the guitar I am looking for it's likely been sitting in a warehouse for years since I believe this color and fretboard combo hasn't been offered since 2018.

Has anyone bought guitars on Amazon before and have any guidance? Is there anything about the listing that might suggest this is a scam?

guitar band that's inspiring me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xai2hGrKFyw

their name is momma and both the singers/guitarists are women and they're great. they're like some of the newer indie rock acts (soccer mommy or snail mail and stuff) but a little more in the 90s direction and some influence from stuff like smashing pumpkins, veruca salt, that dog, etc.

allegra (lead guitarist's name) is really inspiring to me because she plays the sort of lead phrases i like and isn't a middle aged man. also rocks a black SG and makes it feminine.

i've been trying to work on my lead playing more lately. i think it's working.

i can never get myself to do anything structured so i just have a big stack of scale/arpeggio shapes on my music stand and i practice whatever appeals to me whenever i stand near the amp.

and the way i've been writing stuff recently has involved a lot of looping.

i'll stand near the amp and just play guitar, warm up, goof, gently caress with chord shapes, play random riffs, and eventually my brain will start thinking in hand movements and notes instead of words. then i tend to find something i like.

so i'll go over to ableton and quickly program a drum beat that works with it, and make a really long loop, like, 200 measures or something. and i'll record a rhythm part i can loop for my main section-- and then i'll just noodle for a bit or try out scale shapes or something, or try to make walking octaves maybe. eventually i get something.

it's helping the way i do things because i used to feel like this stuff took hours and most of the time, when i go to the computer to stop the recording, it only took me like ten minutes of goofin to find something i liked.

it's kind of the opposite of how i used to try to write which was very insane by comparison-- my understanding is that lots more people write this way, just with a looper pedal instead of using ableton so much to structure out their songs. but i already have ableton and don't have a looper pedal, so!

that's been a reliable way to get basic song ideas or A/main section ideas. i'm going to work on ways to figure out the development process (vocal melodies, lyrics, bridges and choruses and stuff). but this has been great for me over the past few weeks, as far as just getting basic main section ideas down.

my hunch would be that since the chorus is realistically the main part of a song, the most important thing, i could figure out what i want to say in the verse and then build a chorus around stating the main idea in a catchy way or something.

ever since i got my frets leveled, i've really enjoyed playing guitar for hours a day intermittently. i was scared i was losing steam, but as it turns out, i love the instrument and spending time on it, when it's not breaking my brain by by buzzing notes, or the other guitar breaking my thumb.

Anyway someone asked me what my setup is, and I said that it was a Scarlett Solo -> Logic -> DSP Plugins (I'm a chronic minimalist so this is ideal for me) and got mocked for the Solo. I know this is A Thing in online guitar discourse, but is there an actual reason I would want to upgrade from that to something better/more expensive other than it's Babby's First Interface? My needs are simply to get a DI guitar and bass track into logic as easily as possible.

I guess I was super bored so I made a comparison between using fancy helix direct in vs my starving artist Scarlett solo direct, both running into the same helix native plugin in logic.

So Guitar > Helix > Logic > Helix Native vs Guitar > Scarlett Solo > Logic > Helix Native
The helix is just set to a blank preset. So it's direct in with no onboard stuff enabled. On the scarlet solo I pressed the inst button.

Trigger warning this a stratty blues riff played 'almost' the same twice, so.. not high gain metal. im not sure I've tuned my guitar in the last two week either lol
https://on.soundcloud.com/svhvG
The first time is the helix and the repeat is the scarlett.

the biggest difference I noticed is more line noise and cycle hum on the solo. (I put the laptop on battery to see if it made a difference but it didn't). Also, less of a difference here, but from the player peresepctive it feels a little like playing into a a different compressor pedal or something, the Scarlett solo feels little icier somehow. But listening to it's I think it's pretty imperceptible. And if it were mixed into something that would be very imperceptible I think.

I think for the most part if you can stomach a bit higher of a noise floor and get by with the I/o on the scarlett it's practically the same as something more much expensive. It's a fantastic little box I think, very portable, I don't plan on getting rid of mine any time soon.

I wouldn't be sure it's a mistake.

The back of the headstock in the product picture shows an "MX16" starting serial number, which would indicate a production run year of 2016, so you might be right about it being years old stock.

Pre-2018 guitars would be before they started calling the MIM guitars their "Player" series, and before they raised their MSRPs across the board. Could be made before they switched to Pau Ferro on the Mexican guitars due to the CITES treaty situation on rosewood, which was around that same time period. So this might actually be marked up from the original list price ($499?).
