Talking with a middle-aged doctor about treatment for a family member. Unprompted they start talking about how there's so much disruption, shortages and a slow healthcare collapse. The punchline is there are no longer alternative medicines for many things. There's no option Bs. I was tempted to say it's okay doc it's just the end of this world. Instead went with 'do what you can do, and don't worry about what's out of your hands'. Ambivalent about whether should have leaned into the 'end of the industrial world' and there's more of this coming. Or been more comforting to a low-key distressed human being. I hate advertising and its messages forced on me. Wasn't up for spreading the doom gospel today.

I know we were on a similar subject a page back and hate to diverge from the current stimulating intellectual discussion, but these days my hedonism seems to have developed a case of anhedonia. Didn’t think it was possible… I’ve always been a hearty drinker, then quit 5 years, then on and off again for Covid and collapse awareness, but typically a 5th of vodka in a night gives me at least a buzz. Tonight nothing, just back (kidney?) pain. Time to go on the wagon for good and experience the apocalypse as it should be experienced, as a fully cognizant sober man punishing myself for my ancestors sins

i was smugging to myself recently because i don't have children, not because i don't want them but because i want a totally informed opinion first on the various environmental dangers they will be exposed to so i can protect them. not like all these other idiots popping out babies and drenching them in pfas and pesticides. i am a smart. but then i realised that my ovaries have been inside me all this time, long before i knew about any of this poo poo. it actually doesn't matter what i do - the cumulative poison is already there, in my eggs. there is absolutely no way i can avoid exposing a hypothetical baby to all this poo poo, because my body is where it will grow, and that's already poisoned. ping!
