I am interested in most phases of data processing.
If things get dire, at least ending the historical aberration of having giant quantities of meat with every meal would allow sufficient food even with significant declines of ag output. Of course we’ll blow past the point where the world can be fed even with plants only.

Going without meat? Impossible. We should just figure out which groups of people don't deserve to live instead

Yeast, I'm releasing as much ethanol I can now but I promise to reduce this in the future.

good news! this is exactly what the free market is great at, and best of all it does it automatically without any single person or organization to direct the blame at, therefore it's not famine or murder, it's just efficient resource allocation

how flexible is the cattle industry? like if there are food shortages, but the US is fine, and the price of grain goes up, corn is gonna get rerouted out of the country rather than fed to cows at some point. and the cost of beef will go up etc.

but its not like you can kill off 90% of the herd cause itd take so long to build it back to full capacity right? it looks like cows have a 9 month gestation and generally have one calf, so thats not a crazy fast doubling rate

i guess my point is theres probably significant financial incentive to keep the cattle herd size a pretty high fraction of what it is currently, beyond the cost of the meat itself, that will be acting against the welfare of human beings not starving even farther beyond what would have guessed previously

Alberta ranchers are going to sell their cattle instead of letting them starve this year. Its not looking good so everything is on schedule.

Nah I think it’s more that since milk cows must keep calving there’s always more calves (and milk cows are worth keep feeding)

They do have to kill off 90% of the herd for disease or heat reasons already.

Pro-tip: simply push the cow and it will slide away (assuming the cow is spherical and frictionless and in a vacuum)
