In Cannonball Run, Arthur Foyt is ascending the stairs with Beauty, going on and on about how he's an aggressive man, a wild bull, all while pushing one hand down on her shoulder to lift himself up the stairs.

PhantomOfTheCopier posted:(And from a few pages ago since I did a quick scroll back, there are two Bond films that include footage from the others. Hmmm, maybe three now? On Her Majesty's Secret Service includes footage from all the Connery films in the opening credits. Spectre includes footage from the previous three Craig films in the opening credits, which I always see as a mini homage to OHMSS.) In a similar vein, one of the Pierce Brosnan movies, I think Die Another Day, has a scene with him and Q (By this point being played by John Cleese) going through a shop filled with gadgets and weapons and stuff from basically every previous movie. He briefly turns on the jet pack from Thunderball and there’s some quick mention about it being stuff from his previous X number of missions and that was the Xth movie made.

I don't know why the movies keep acting like it's the same person. People love the idea that James Bond is a code name, just look at how many times it's popped up itt over the years. I thought we were past this bullshit with Craig, but then they decided no, wait, it's not a reboot after all, hey look it's the car from Goldfinger Like, don't play into it, that would ruin it, but don't have one Bond weeping at the grave of another Bond's wife

Bond movies have jerked themselves raw about this forever. Patient zero is probably "this never happened to the other fella" from OHMSS, but the post-Cold War movies just keep doing it.

I mean bond continuity is pretty arbitrary and based off just works with the movie and that seems to be the best way to go. Like there really doesn't actually seem to be a reason to come down one way or another. Everyone knows what a bond film is, no need to complicate things.

I love the guy from the Triad in Lucy who thinks he's the primary villain because he's confused about which Genre of movie he's in - he thinks it's a revenge story, but when Lucy catches back up with him, she just pins him to the chair by his hands, and uses her new telepathy to tear the information she's looking for from his mind, and lectures him about how she's moved beyond the mortal plane and that he's still stuck in his limited world view, ending with (paraphrased) "Even now, all you can focus on is the pain. Everything else is completely blocked out, all that you know is incredible pain." Then when the movie ends, he's just stood there, no idea what the gently caress is going on, no one in the room is intimidated by him and all his goons are dead, and he's just totally confused, in a foreign country surrounded by cops.

BiggerBoat posted:Seriously, just make a Bond movie. COntinuity doesn't matter much to me in general but especially in a film series like this one. Once they get to GoldenEye they start playing a lot with "9yr later" and other devices, suggesting that each is one story in the same character's exploits. Whereas some of the former had "arcs", and this seems true of some of the movies to come, each might actually occur at any point during Bond's career. The only connections are given by the cross references. EG License to Kill (Revoked) happened after the events of OHMSS. This mirrors the short stories, which have no notion of exterior chronology (admittedly I have not read them all).

Saw a Ratatouille reference (way up thread, I'm catching up). I like that they did enough research (or just made a good guess) to get basic rat movement correct. Remi likes to climb (so do rats), moves quickly through open areas, is mostly near walls. Yeah, they've studied this stuff, since we do lots of rat studies anyway. Rats are very agoraphobic; they maximize nearby walls "for security". The first I found randomly: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18297193/

Carthag Tuek posted:welp I found out from this https://bennet-7.livejournal.com/92575.html LiveJournal post that goes over all the costumes in the movie. Each character has their own style, and the team members when working and travelling have outfits made out of mixing a limited number of re-used pieces. They are tidy in the dream, but sloppy in reality. They wear more layers in the dream - and maybe more layers the more layers they are down, as quick visual cue to help the audience track where they are. The team in Arthur's hotel dream have similar clothing flourishes - patterns, paisley accents - that follow how Arthur dresses himself in reality. Ariadne's shirt in that layer is made out of a folded, draped fabric that parallels Saito's nagajuban in Arthur's restaurant dream at the beginning.

Goonies, I just noticed in the opening police chase they pass a house with a plumbers truck outside, then we see mouth and his father. I had always assumed it was just some dad at home trying to repair his house, but didn't get that it was a father who took his kid on a job? I also watched it a dozen times before seeing the "orv" driving past their house in the scene change. "Favorite subtlety" though has got to be the mother and son who both have word choice troubles. "I'm... I'm going to commit Hare Krishna!" (Okay okay they made it subtle so an 9yr old got it, but not a 6yo). (And it eventually infects Data, who says he's setting booty traps, even though he corrected Mikey early for the same thing.) ps Favorite line: "I'm going to hit you so hard when you wake up your clothes will be out of style!". Also my favorite Ann Ramsey film. pps (And the gate opener has "RubeG" written on it, but I noticed that years ago) PhantomOfTheCopier has a new favorite as of 19:59 on Jun 18, 2023 |
