Just looking at the product photos again... I can tell this is going to be a crapshoot.

I think I'm going to use the one with the VGA input as part of a bartop arcade build, though, so if the bezel on that one is hosed I don't care so much.

This is a cool idea, but at the moment the graphics just look like a kinda poorly bitcrushed version of the original. I'd like to seem them redo the graphics more in mind of contemporary NES/FamiCom VN titles like Famicom Detective Club or Jinguji Saburo. I really like the Jinguji style, though the actual games are obtuse in a way that would make Sierra cry.

It definitely needs a proper redraw, not just an import and down sample the palette.

Wouldn't the text alone eclipse the size for NES? Metal Slader Glory was the largest Famicom title at 1MB and Gyakuten Saiban (the GBA version) and its sequels on the platform are 8MB

A few things here. First, text compresses really well and even an 8-bit processor can do that fast enough for this purpose.

However, they're probably doing this in NESMaker whose default mapper (they use their own custom one) allows for some huge carts. I'd guess that this is just the script being copied straight in with a huge cart.

The patent (4,558,302) was issued in 1985 so its expiration date will turn 20 on the 20th (applied for on 6/20/83)

Thought this was really cool, yeah it seems pretty minor, but its one step closer to being able to accurately play our retro games in the way the original devs intended.

Can you use a Famicom Disk system with an Analogue Mini Nt Noir?

I don’t want a FDS and I don’t particularly like my mini noir but I was curious after someone asked a FDS question and most of the google results are Reddit.

I experienced problems using the FDS on my Nt Mini Noir v2 until the 1.3 firmware update was released last month. Now it works as expected. The FDSStick works too if you'd like another option that still makes use of the FDS RAM Adapter.

What's the ROI on the Everdrive 64 X5 vs X7? Which games use the real-time clock? Is it just Animal Forest (which I will never play ever)? Is the USB port used only for development or is it used to push firmware updates and such?

I can get used to resetting before turning the system off to keep saves so I'm not too worried about that. It'll be like playing Dragon Warrior again!

There is a tool you can use to dump Game Boy saves using the transfer pak and USB port on the x7, but other than that yeah, Animal Crossing is the only RTC game I think.

The obvious one is the exclusive F-Zero game but I don't remember which game is which there. There's also the Rhythm Heaven game.

Yeah I came accross a detailed breakdown on Reddit. I have no use for this nor the RTC so it came down to whether if no-reset and the translucent red shell was worth the extra $80 USD. I decided that it was not.

Super Robot Wars J is a fun one and it has an English translation patch*

Here's some common recommendations. Games with a * next to them have a translation patch out there. Games with a ** are games you'll need the translation patch for since there's a lotta text!

Bit Generations series
Densetsu no Stafy series
Elevator Action: Old and New
F-Zero Climax*

I was thinking they were a grey market import, but they advertised, so they at least had to be incorporated in the companies they did business in.
Wiki mentions this company - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin_Chen_Enterprise which also developed the MegaDuck as well as the Supervision, as well as a bunch of unlicensed Nintendo and Sega console games.
So, if the trail dries up somewhere in Hong Kong or Malaysia …. Oh well!

Hey everyone, I was hoping someone can help me remember a old PS2 JRPG. If I saw screenshots of it I would remember it instantly but the title is escaping me.

So it's a PS2 JRPG that had multiple main stories. You picked which one you wanted to play on the main menu. The art style was this storybook, paper cutout animation style. Like a high fantasy paper Mario. The world map screen was just a series of territories on a map that you moved a token with your character's face on it around and that would lead to fights or events. Combat itself was your standard JRPG. I remember a lot of roullette wheels too.
