That's right. Here it is. But it's like you always have compared the sword, the making of the sword, with the making of the character. Cuz the stronger, the stronger it will get, right, the stronger the steel will get, with all that, and the same as with the character.

quote:

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

Non-Wokeness Score: 100 percent

Woke Elements: “The 40-Year-Old Virgin is a deceptively conservative film. Amidst its often vulgar and adolesent (sic) humor, the truth of the film is that waiting for a commited (sic) and monogomous (sic) relationship is worth it. Everyone in the movie who has had and does have multiple partners is actually somewhat sad, with the exception of Seth Rogen’s Cal, who is too stupid and high to know the difference. Romany Malco’s Jay is a serial cheater and is actually miserable underneath his slick veneer, that is until he finds out that his girlfriend is pregnant. Once he finds out that he is a father (which he acknowledges upon seeing the ultrasound) and comes to grips with the underlying reasons that he cheats, he becomes monogomous (sic) and happy.”

Eighty for Brady

Non-Wokeness Score: 95 percent

Woke Elements: “The irony that I don’t have much to put in this section when talking about a film that features both Sally Field and Hanoi Jane, is not lost on me. However, I don’t.”

Apparently, they consider spell check to be woke

The reviews are hilarious. On the review of Elemental;

quote:

It’s the gayest Disney film to date.
On the review of Evil Dead Rise the reviewer didn't know one of the male actors was trans until pointed out by someone else then he dinged the movies rating accordingly. It's basically like if the reviewer really liked an actor and how well he performed but learned the actor is a communist! in real life then completely flipped their opinion of them in a flash.

For every moderately popular thing that exists, you can always rely on conservatives to do the same thing except backwards and dumber.

Although the guy is kind enough to provide his definition of woke (all typos his not mine):

quote:

What we mean by “woke?”

Woke [wōk]: adj.– 1. the quality of ultra/radical-progressivism, characterized by the active eschewing of objective truth as well as traditions and societal mores that have been tried and tested for generations in lieu of nonsensical beliefs that defy logic and substantive supportive objective data. Ex: Roads are racist. There are no such things as immutable characteristics.

Progressivism in film isn’t new. However, what makes a film “woke” is forced radical progressive messaging and artificially setting said messaging’s primacy over that of the narrative.

Some examples of wokeness in film:
  • The forced celebration of behavior that, until 30 minutes ago, was deemed to be immoral, unethical, or the province of the profoundly mentally disturbed, and treating those who do not participate in said celebration as bigots.
  • Writing women as snarky prats who are better and smarter than every male in the film, because every male in the film has been written as either a useless caricature of a man or an evil caricature of a man.
  • Disney’s “not so secret gay agenda.”
  • Retconning strong male characters in their own sequels and reboots to be significantly lesser than previously established so that a “strong independent woman” can undermine them.
  • The caricaturing of capitalism and capitalists and/or religion and the religious so that they may be used as straw men to forward a false (i.e. radical-progressive) narrative.
  • Manufactured diversity quotas for the sake of diversity over narrative.

Sure do love my multi-billion dollar radical anticapitalist media conglomerates.

The Islamic Shock
Apr 8, 2021
Huh, and I always thought ultra-radical progressivism was something to the tune of

-murdering billionaires, taxing the absolute piss out of corporations and using all that money for free food, childcare, healthcare, housing, education and a UBI
-every drug, abortion, and everything else you could ever want to do to your own body legal
-anything remotely resembling the function of a gun banned if you're not getting paid specifically by the government to hunt animals
-the abolition of the police, military presence outside our (open) borders and all religious protections with religion itself barely tolerated

poo poo like that. I didn't know actively hiring minorities counted.

Edit: do you think I could explode any heads by putting all that on a giant gently caress-rear end sign

They don't have a review of the new Batman and I want to read it :allears:

Which is funnier:

-They notice the blatant references to white nationalist terrorism and the need for heroism to be more than just beating up bad guys being a fundamental anathema to modern conservative thought

-They absolutely do not and just talk about how great it is that a white billionaire is being seen as a hero.

Wow, they're not even trying to hide their racism. From the review for Elemental:

quote:

The film’s main conflict is that, while the earth, wind, and water folks all live together in relative harmony in the wealthy part of town, the fire folk are treated as second-class citizens and are largely segregated from the others, going so far as to have an entire borough (made of brick) to themselves. The inherent problem in this hamfisted anti-bigotry metaphor is that fire is one of the most destructive natural forces known to man, and in Elemental, it is shown to be the case as well.

In one of the film’s many repeated gags, the main character tends to explode like living napalm when she gets frustrated, causing considerable damage to everything within a 30-foot radius. Furthermore, there are numerous instances of firepeople accidentally and intentionally incinerating or otherwise damaging property and even people. In one scene, Ember tells Wade of a time when a racist security guard wouldn’t let her father and her into a museum, saying, “But they said our fire was too dangerous and wouldn’t let us in.” Um, yeah… you’re made of fire. It seems more than reasonable to be cautious of an entire group of people who could kill you if one stubs his toe, let alone is shown to incinerate property with a thought.

quote:

Elemental is the perfect metaphor for Leftist views of diversity. Here you have a mostly peaceful and cohesive society filled with a diverse group of people from completely different backgrounds and cultures. Then, on the other side of town is a relatively small group of people who are literally made of a deadly and dangerous substance with the ability to destroy everything around them just by getting too upset or even accidentally touching someone. Yet, the movie wants to preach that three-fourths of the society is bigoted for wanting to be cautious around them.

That's the lifelong problem with X-Men, where on even weeks there are large groups of mutant villains/antiheroes explicitly planning to take over the world and leave humans to extinction, and on odd weeks there are weird hyper-powered mutants threatening to destroy the world by merely existing with their uncontrolled powers. Traditionally they have to underline that anti-mutant humans are the villains by making them really, really cartoonishly evil racists even by the standards of bigotry metaphor stories.

Honestly it works a lot better/less problematic if you give it a generic read of mutants being the young generation old people hate and call troublemakers but they're gonna take over the world sooner or later get used to it old man, but a lot less social relevance in routine youth rebellion stories.

Was listening to a debate by "centrist" Tim Pool and Emma Vigeland and Tim pulls these really aggravating gotchas I see on the right, I don't even know what to call it. Here are two examples :

"Should a woman be allowed to have an abortion?"
"Yes"
"But she's killing her baby and that's wrong"
"No, it's her body she can decide what she wants to do with it"
"OK so if she was smoking meth should we stop her since it will harm the baby? If you don't think that's murder should we just let pregnant women smoke and do drugs while pregnant?" :smug:

"I'm not in favor of censorship"
"Well what about having Playboy or Hustler in schools"
"Well obviously not that in schools"
"But you said you weren't in favor of censorship, these books have the same stuff in it as adult magazines, why is that different?" :smug:

It’s all so confused and stupid. There’s a great scene where white superhero Kitty Pride explains racism to a black man by using the n-word to show him how he’s being a racist when he hates mutants, which is a huge revelation that blows him away.
