Catching up with the Saturday stream and I'm being confused by the matchups that aren't in the attached tournament eg around 2:08 in there's one between Silent Spring and Stag Beetle Brox just after Fragment lost to Chubby Unicorn. Was this to figure out who had to start in the first round and who got seeded to the second round, that would make sense?

The current format splits bots into Rivals, Qualifiers & Bosses. In the 1st round of qualifiers, the challengers fight challengers & rivals fight rivals. Bosses get a bye. Winner of the rival vs rival fight gets a mid tier tournament seed. Winner of the challenger fight fights a boss in round 2 of the qualifiers. Winner gets a top seed, loser gets a high seed. Losers of the rivals & loser of the challengers have a last chance match, winner gets the low seed in the bracket, loser goes home. Previous years NHRL just ran a double elimination format, but the 3lb field got too big, so they had to change it up, but every competitor is guaranteed 2 fights still. Currently maxed at 160 bots per weight class for their format / math to work out.

I also tried to find the previous fight with Chubby Unicorn and Frogment but it looks like the June figures aren't in yet because both Chubby Unicorn and Silent Spring are bosses and they haven't put up all the results yet. Yea, not sure why they didn't post any of the fight results from yesterday with the qualifier matches before setting the tournament bracket. Today's matches are great and I think people will enjoy watching it later. Really solid format, going through each weight class 1 round at a time in order. Real nice format.

It was questionable due to the F1 race setup that would be taking place during their normal filming window. I'm also not sure if the writers or actors strike would effect the show. I've been meaning to watch that panel. Maybe this weekend I'll get around to it. In good & bad news. The Destruct-a-thon show has been renewed though the end of the year, although with a month off in November for the F1 race. Bad news of course as it likely means Season 8 is not going to film until 2024.

I think the strikes might be playing a role. But I think it's likely just a simple logistics issue more than anything. Even back in early spring before either strike Battlebots said they were trying to film in the summer this year, but possible not going to until 2024. Pretty unlikely it's a money thing, as they sell tickets to the live taping for the show as well. For a little context on logistics, this video is the F1 paddock construction. It's basically diagonal across from the Battlebots lot. I'm sure the main arena & studio is relatively sound proof from construction, but not so sure with the pits and certainly not the outdoor area they use post fight segments. Indirectly, maybe. They've extended Destruct-o-thon, presumably because they know they can't film the next season. They probably won't release Champions until they know when they can start filming again, so they can space out the seasons reasonably. edit: I scrolled up I realize I have just summarized a post in this very thread, with my own added speculation.

I've assumed that the delay from filming season 8 would likely delay when Discovery Channel airs the Golden Bolt. But I don't really remember how much notice they gave last year before actually airing it either. I could see them holding off on the Golden Bolt so people sub to Discovery+ when they will have other content to keep people subbed.

BattleBots is relatively cheap compared to a lot of TV and has consistently been at or near the top of discoverys ratings since its debut. So obviously it'll be cancelled because HBO can't stop making the worst decisions possible.
