The fig tree story is bookended by Jesus driving the money changers from the temple. poor people get the fig tree story. if you are hungry it doesn’t matter if its not the season for figs.

If you read the whole text of that "we are legion" thing basically Jesus sends the demons out of the guy and into a flock of sheep, which immediately drown themselves in a nearby lake. The shepherds come up and, according to the apostles, say something like "you can't stay here anymore", which I assume is a really nicely filtered version of "what the gently caress did you just do to our entire flock of sheep, get the gently caress out of here you goddamn rear end in a top hat"

This message – more than any other religious claim – is what threatened his enemies, and is why he was put to death. This interpretation has been all but expunged from our contemporary understanding of the phrase, “…and forgive them their debts,” in The Lord’s Prayer. It has been changed to “…and forgive them their trespasses (or sins),” depending on the particular Christian tradition that influenced the translation from the Greek opheilēma/opheiletēs (debts/debtors). Ancient kings who had to deal with actual threats to their power understood that people could be in so much debt they couldn't actually work the fields to feed everyone and announced debt forgiveness days every so often. It was an especially useful tool to ensure support of the populous, funny that.

Huh... Weird. It's still 'debts' in Serbian (Orthodox), although someone will usually helpfully point out that it's not "literally" debts that's being talked about. Now I wonder which churches translate it which way.

There's some research I wanna do about this long gone laboratory that used to make nuclear bomb parts one city over, and I know the local library would have way more resources on it than I've been able to find online (the place barely gets a mention on wikipedia, and the line on wikipedia is wrong based on other documents I found) but also it requires getting in the loving car and driving somewhere and ughhhh
