Deplorable lack of air conditioning.

Old pic of my Cutlass.

apparently during radiator replacement.

That's before I pulled the engine to replace a damage oil pan and ended up removing the entire front end and cleaning and/or painting literally everything from the firewall forward. Especially that rusty master cylinder.
I don't seem to have any others handy - everything else is on my file server at home. Mind you, it looks pretty sad and dusty just right now...

Adding AC is on my to-do list for sure!
Your fan shroud looks more useless than mine, did you have poo poo AC performance and/or overheating without one?

You'll note the comment about it being during radiator replacement...

The factory shroud was on there with that setup, and I eventually swapped back to the original clutched fan, too, until I installed dual electric fans from a '90s FWD GM.

edit: It ran about 210F with the clutched fan, as I recall. The e-fans will kick in at about 200-210, and off at 190, again, as I recall. It's been a while.

edit again: the GM OEM electric fans really suck:

Also, it's a 4-core rad. No overheating, and the AC worked fine. It was running ES-12A (propane blend) because that's what was available at the time. No clue if it's still in there, but I'll switch to R-152, aka air dusters, probably.
It's a POA system, so I can't change to anything radically different from R-12 without either replacing the POA with a cycling switch, retuning the POA valve pressures - which is apparently a thing you can do - or replacing the system entirely. I'm torn between keeping it original (for one thing, those old Harrison A-6 compressors are workhorses) and having a modern Denso-style compact system that doesn't require the massive "suitcase" on the firewall. I don't like replacing working stuff, especially *original* working stuff, but it's not and never will be a concours restoration. There are enough of those, so I'm not against putting in better stuff if it doesn't require hacking up the car, like the TH 200-4R OD transmission that's in it.

Oh right, I forgot they used POA valves on these.
I use r152a on all my r12 cars, even my 134a cars and it works great. I just make sure to flush the system and change to the correct oil.

Electric fans are ok, i'm just always worried about the crappy little alternators they put in old cars, can't keep up well at idle.

Just a background my car is a CPO'd cayman:

- Picked it up and the car had a broken center console USB port and leaky CV joint
- Porsche fixed it under warranty but it took 8 weeks and when they brought my car back they didn't attach the rear brake ducting so it went right back to the shop because the ducting was just dragging on the ground
- Belt tensioner broke and took the belt with it
- Passenger window motor died
- The drive mode selector will randomly start going through drive modes
- Rear camera works 50% of the time

I've had the car a year this month and while I can deal with an unreliable car it's really the Porsche dealer support that is a big let down. Top to bottom from buying my car to taking it for warranty repairs Porsche dealers are some of the worst I've ever dealt with. I love my car but I cant wait to get rid of it.

Those all are horrendous issues for a newer car from Porsche who you'd think pride themselves on quality builds. You think it's a "lemon" or issues common for that model/generation?

Speaking of engine bays, here's a recent pic of APR's coil packs, as well Integrated Engineering's intake and turbo inlet which I installed earlier this week. Install wasn't too bad, the inlet turbo adapter had a very skinny o-ring on each side that needed to be held place while mating to the turbo & inlet which was fun. Extra turbo pic with some New Mexican dirt making an appearance.

I think it's multifaceted personally. Porsche has this reputation of reliability but after owning one and hanging with other Porsche owners online and in person they really do spend a lot of time in the shop. My buddy's dad had a 992 Carrera S that suffered turbo failure at 500 miles, that same buddy owned a 2017 991.2 and it was always in the shop, the last straw was his getting his radiator fixed, the dealer didn't secure the hoses properly so when he drove away it spewed coolant everywhere.

I think it makes it doubly bad because the dealers in my region are true clowns. I bought a CPO because I wanted piece of mind against repairs for a used car but I'm convinced that shops here are incompetent. Every time I get my car back there is always a random tool left somewhere, or some trim piece not attached, or in my last repair a trim tab broken so now my cabin rattles like loving crazy.

I snapped the last time I was getting work done, every time I bring my car in I get some stupid rear end spiel about Porsches racing heritage and reliability and I just went "dude, shut the hell up with this reliability bullshit, why would I take my car to the track when it can't make it to McD's"

There is also a strong cult following with Porsche, I posted on rennlist about my car/dealer expereience and I got flooded with "MY CAR HAS A BILLION MILES IT AMAZING, NO PORSCHE HAS HAD ANY PROBLEMS EVER"

Anyway, end rant lol. I'm putting an order in for an M3 in a few weeks so I'll be rid of it soon enough.

Having a good dealer must be nice, ive had 2 BMW's and both times the dealer experience has been 100% trash, funny you mention leftover tools, i have a few snap ons they left from when I had my e46.

That's a bummer cause I would have figured under the VAG umbrella you hear of good overall build quality. The dealership issues sound awful, I feel for you there. The Audi dealer I have worked with over the past few years has been great. The service advisor I primarily worked with even asked their techs not to scan my car when it was in for service unless absolutely required (it would flag it TD1 which meant ECU modified/tuned) - helping to preserve my CPO warranty at the time.

My previous A4's 2.0T was Unitronic Stage 1-2 tuned for about 40-50k miles with no issues and the 3.0T V6 in the S4 is very tunable as well. Thankfully I have not heard of many reliability issues for the B9 platform in general or even when tuned. I think some of the Stage 3 folks running ethanol might see some potential injector problems here and there. It's crazy how much the software modifications wake up these cars.
