In a prior life 20 years ago I worked as a personal lines claims adjuster. Had a claim once for damage caused by a peacock going nuts attacking it's reflection in someone's side panel. I was informed that they're pretty, but annoying as Hell when they escape into the wild and run around a neighborhood.

When I was a kid we lived in a semi-rural wooded area and there were several flocks of wild turkeys that roamed there. Various people including my mom put out feed and kitchen scraps for them, so we saw them frequently. Some rich douchebag nearby bought a pair of peacocks that he expected to roam around his property and ... I dunno, just look cool I guess. They promptly fled and joined the nearest flock. There were squabbles at first, and you'd hear that distinctive shriek, but within about a week, the turkeys had pulled out all the peacocks' long tail feathers, and from then on they were just a couple of regular guys who happened to be blue. After that they never yelled anymore, just occasionally sort of chirped when on chick duty.

Having volunteered at an aviary, I can report peacocks are beautiful and also dumb as poo poo. e: VVV Yeah I also got a few calls on them when I did animal control, except they were reported as injured cats (or the aforementioned woman which the cops responded to and then called me) SubponticatePoster has a new favorite as of 18:12 on Jun 27, 2023 |

A muster of peacocks in the distance sounds like a crowd of children crying for help.

Flock birds don't like being alone. Years ago, my parent were travelling around France, and they saw a big flock of sparrows down on the road, eating grain that had fallen from a truck. Among the hundreds of sparrow's, there was one little blue budgie, hopping around, eating grain and speaking in budgie-accented sparrow chirps ![]()

I ran into a flock of emus in SW Australia that had a few ostriches in it that had presumably escaped/been released from farms.

No you are absolutely right, that video is gross and shouldn't be in this thread. It's literally exploiting animals in trouble for views and may even have been manufactured.

Yeah, I guess you are right. Didint think of that when I posted I just thought it was cute and it never crossed my mind the obvious question of why this was being filmed in the first place. When you think of that, it does becomes gross Elias_Maluco has a new favorite as of 16:40 on Jun 28, 2023 |

Big dogs being very gentle with little animals is always extremely heartwarming <3 There was a Russian terrier in my town a few years back who always laid down when little dogs were nearby, because he didn't want to scare them. My neighbours have a chihuahua who does exactly the same thing; he doesn't want to scare anyone with his terrifying chihuahua might ![]()
