Received a Vinegar Syndrome email for $20 off the halfway sub price, but they had this extra news about the new releases:

quote:

Next month (July) we’ve cooked up a tantalizing taste of what’s to come, including the UHD debut of a giant monster classic, which we’ve exclusively restored from its original negative, plus the world BD debut of one of the sleaziest, nastiest, and most perverse gialli ever made - while later this year you can look forward to more never-on-disc slashers, including a Canadian giallo rarity, more regional horror, a double dose of horrific shockers from Germany, and an early 80s Hong Kong horror! And that doesn’t even touch our Black Friday lineup which, among other things, will include our now long-teased mega box set!

Early 80s Hong Kong horror, hmmmm

The Seventh Curse is 86 so that can't be it, my guess is either The Boxer's Omen or Human Lanterns.

A label like Vinegar Syndrome needs to release a true forgotten giallo, like Death Carries a Cane. No one talks about that movie, and it's so good. Nice and mean-spirited. Maybe in the next forgotten giallo boxset.

Is there a specific time for the criterion sale tomorrow? Or do they just surprise everyone?

Definitely not The Boxer's Omen since it's in Arrow's Shawscope Vol. 2 box set.

Well for one thing you get the color boost with HDR. I also think with the stop motion models you could potentially get a lot more texture with a proper 4k, although I'm not familiar with the technical details about Nightmare Before Christmas specifically.

Terrified of whatever the Vinegar Syndrome 10-movie box set is gonna be. Since I’m almost definitely going to want whatever it is I hope the price is somewhat reasonable. I feel like with the recent announcement that adult titles are being moved offsite it probably won’t be porn, but since it’s a 10th anniversary tie-it it could be sexploitation-themed. Something tells me it’s not going to be horror. I’d be stoked to get a David F Friedman collection, but I would freak the gently caress out if it was a Michael Findlay set.

I didn't edit it to protect my privacy, that's what the email looks like. And that "Track your package" button is not a link. It's just an image, clicking it does nothing. I went to the VS website but it's down again

Those tall ones are called Super Jewel Box King cases and they are indeed super AND king (a Super was 1:1 ratio like a regular jewel case). They were popular with music DVDs back in the day (early-mid 2000s). Sometimes a title would be available in both Super King and standard Jewel case, depending on where you liked to keep your music DVDs. I always chose the King

i didn't get the standard until a couple years ago. Sometimes they were offered in standard Jewel or DVD Amaray cases, the DMB Central Park Concert DVD was one of those.

An example of a Super Jewel Box case, this is a SACD.

I almost bought a Franz Ferdinand DVD in a Super Jewel King from Goodwill back in 2019. Then I remembered that I do not like Franz Ferdinand. I still kinda regret not grabbing it, it was like $3. Such is the power, the allure, of the Super Jewel Box King case.

I got a similar thing to an order i had forgotten i placed on 27 May, got a proper notice for one of the three titles but not the other stacked order with two titles. I then immediately got another shipping notification for order no. "1". I'm assuming they're sending them all. But drat, taking a month to fulfill an order.

On the up side, I emailed them back in April when they had used the incorrect time initials and they listened! The current page reads "EDT".

Thanks for listening, VinSyn :)
