That's like one of the best item descriptions around though. But yeah as you say you could get an LLM to write those but it would be a lot of effort in figuring out how to do it, so much that it's not worth it.

I was thinking more along the lines of a descriptions for items in a ultra-low-budget indie text-based lifesim (or that's what I'm using it for). Think Rimworld crossed with Academagia and A Legionary's Life.

I can write those manually but ultimately it would be even shittier and involve a lot of copy&paste, because writing intricate descriptions that fit the theme/gameworld would take literal man-months or man-years.

It's obviously a very different situation for an AAA studio, or even a mid-sized indie dev team with a few writers and artists.

If it's completely infeasible to write that many item descriptions maybe your game has too many items in need of description.

I want to throw out a recommendation for Card Shark, which is on sale right now for only $5.99. I thought it looked interesting on release last year and bought it since it was fairly cheap, but only just got around to playing it. I've put a few hours into it so far, and I'm really enjoying it. It's an adventure game set in 18th century France in which you play a mute serving boy who gets taken under the wing of the Comte de Saint Germain to learn how to become a con artist, mostly by cheating people at cards.

The main gameplay loop works really well. You get taught a new con (which are all based on real world techniques like false shuffling, marking cards, and using signals), get a chance to practice it as much as you like, and then go into a real card game where you have to pull it off without getting caught multiple times. The cheats are fairly simple in gameplay terms but require a mix of speed, precision, and memorization to pull off. The cycle of stress and relief the game puts you through makes for a satisfying experience.

It's got a great art style and soundtrack. The characters and writing are a lot of fun too. Howlongtobeat says it takes about 8 hours to beat, which seems like it's going to be a good length for the game. I'd definitely recommend it at the current sale price.

The first imo but it depends on what you’re playing for - I bought it after reading a bunch of random history of marine engineering books and just spent my time making boats, driving toward a mission, capsizing, fixing that, driving, engine fails, etc etc and you don’t need dlc for that but if your fun comes from doing stuff other than going “oh guess I need another meter of freeboard” you prob want it

I just started Outer Wilds and I need help. Not for anything story or puzzle related, but I feel like I must be missing something about the basic controls. I tried to start unambitious but I can't even land the ship without spinning around endlessly, and trying to get around on foot + jetpack ends with bodyslamming the moon at a million miles a hour and dying. Is there any way of slowing down other than starting thrusters in the opposite direction? e: or matching velocity

On foot thrusters are just for acceleration, you don't need to, and shouldn't, hold them the entire time you're moving in a direction. There's a lot of momentum in the game. Try just tapping/pulsing them once or twice to pick up speed and then letting off.

As for ship spinning uh i dont remember enough about that to know what's going on. Maybe the same momentum thing though. Also remember there's a specific landing-cam mode that lets you see straight down. Some people miss that control but it makes landing way easier.

Are you playing on KB/M? On a controller, thrust is bound to a trigger and you can lighten it by letting up on your press. It occurs to me that I'm not sure how you would implement that on KB/M. :psyduck:

The secret is that you will never find good writing in a AAA product because making a product for the lowest common denominator is the antithesis to good writing.

I just tried out the demo for En Garde and it was really fun! The game has a nice vibrant art style and the light swordplay combined with using the environment to wallsplat enemies seems promising. I could see it getting old if they don't do enough to mix it up, but for a game I hadn't even heard about until fairly recently, this seems like one to watch out for.

A bit late and you might know it already, but:

When you dodge, you are completely invulnerable for a fraction a second. Even if a weapon seems to touch you during that period, you will not take damage. (This is called iframes)

Be sure to keep an eye on your equipment weight - the weight heavily impacts stuff like your dodge distance and time between dodges, so experiment till you find a weight percentage that’s comfortable.
