YES, CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG IS ABSOLUTELY A KAIJU
It wasn’t just the tweet, he took it far enough to blindly sign a contract written up by twitter management that waived “due diligence”, meaning he basically signed away his ability to back out of the deal no matter what he found when twitter handed over their documents. When he tried to back out of it by going to court, waving his arms and shouting about it being full of bots, the contract meant he wasn’t allowed to use that as an excuse to back out.

The one smart thing Musk did was to create the illusion of him being this genius tech guy who became the world's richest man through sheer big brain energy - he created* Paypal! He founded* Tesla! He’s the rocket man who's going to take humanity to Mars!*

Then, because he's an obnoxious dipshit who can't keep his mouth shut, people start to look behind the curtain to find out why his reputation doesn't jibe with his behaviour, and they find he's just an overprivileged bully who keeps failing upwards because everyone he's ever worked with hates him for being a meddling moron and is willing to pay him off to get him out of the door. Except now at Twitter, there's nobody else there to pay him off, so all his dumbass decisions are in plain sight.

Musk wants you to praise him for being a genius.
Trump just wants you to praise him.

Musk has a very specific idea of who and what he is, and 'intellectual' is a huge part of it. Look at how he depicts himself as opposed to how Trump and a lot of other fascists depict themselves. Musk wants you to think he is a genius philosopher-king technocrat who is going to use his amazing mind and technology to save the human race. 'He's the real life Tony Stark.'

EDIT: Trump wants to convince you he's a successful businessman. Musk wants to convince you he's a techbro genius.
Like that's the really hilarious/sad/pathetic thing. He's not a techbro idiot. He's too stupid and too lazy to be one. He's someone so loving pathetic that 'techbro' is an aspirational goal that he will never be able to attain.

It is absolutely stunning to me that it's 2:43 AM on the west coast and nobody in a position of real power with force has convinced Musk to restore a fairly bit of crucial communications infrastructure yet, much less him caving and having it restored himself so his emotional support engine works correctly to feed him dopamine.

Musk is about as intelligent as Trump. He's a profoundly stupid man. He just happens to have a different sort of egomania from Trump and isn't anti-intellectual and as such tries to cultivate an image of being a philosopher-king and also, to his credit over Trump, shows at least a cursory surface-level interest in intellectual pursuits.

But he's just as dumb. He's seriously a dumb motherfucker and given his apparent drug abuse, he's only going to get dumber.

Like, this is another aspect that needs to be highlighted: for anyone who's been observing him, even online, for a little bit, it is profoundly obvious that even in the time during the Twitter purchase and following it, he's deteriorated. My own armchair internet diagnosis is wholly unmitigated early-onset dementia, but whatever it is, he has clearly gotten progressively less coherent and more erratic in his decision-making even throughout just his Twitter tenure. All of the testimonials about his behavior in the Twitter era point to it.

He is coming more and more apart almost daily. I'm probably a bit full of poo poo w/r/t him falling apart with just the breaking of the emotional support engine that is his Twitter (though I do wonder), but I absolutely cannot conceive of him lasting eight more years to reach 60 with his faculties intact.

The man is absolutely going to drug and Twitter himself into vegetation, and I'm bummed that the useful functions of Twitter are going to go with him. :smith:

This is true. And if I recall, it was narrowed down to some type of failure they didn’t think could ever actually happen, and then once they isolated it and figured out the root cause, they didn’t have the keys to open the cage on the data center cabinet they needed to get to to bring it back up, and had to saw through the grate.

I think this looks different. We will probably never know the reason for this because Leon will lie and say scrapers overwhelmed our capacity and while we tried to fix that, Woke Haxxors infiltrated and made it worse.

But more likely they hosed around with the rate limit and then it broke, also didn’t pay hosting bills.

And later, once they realized how badly they’d hosed things up and Leon had late-night conference calls to come up with a boatload of cash, and they’d called and begged terminated employees to come back and fix it, they decided to go radio silent for hours.

They probably know how to fix it now and have an ETR but most of the internal talks now are about how to lie about the whole thing and make it about anybody but Leon and his Twelve Angry Programmers

If I recall correctly, the problem was that the access card system for the building relied on some component within their facebook domain to work. However, since the problem made the *entire* domain unreachable (was it a BGP problem? DNS? Can't remember), well the access cards needed to get into the building didn't work. So they had to helicopter in some dude to saw open the door or something.

If you already know a specific twitter handle you want to read, you can get some of the most recent posts with this pattern:
https://syndication.twitter.com/srv/timeline-profile/screen-name/put screen name here

It's unclear to me whether this is actually all the posts & retweets, I think there easily could be issues actually tracking & serving them all. I'm quite sure it's not collecting the replies, so you only get the top level tweets. Also you can't click through on any tweet to see any threading or responses from other users, either.

However, you can see the most recent ~20-50 (I haven't counted) posts on a given screen name's timeline.

You know Musk has excluded his account from all these new constraints. So he's probably not seeing any of this personally. And since this guy may not have mastered object permanence, this is maybe why he's not urging someone to do something about it.
