There's a different shot later in the movie where I guess Barbie goes to the real world and sees a real world map and it does actually include the nine dash line.

Gonna put on my no-fun-hat for a second. That doesn't seem all that outlandish to me. I'm not overly familiar with Canadian law, but if the law doesn't specify the precise signal you have to send to accept an oral contract (and it really bloody shouldn't), then with changing times courts will have to decide on what constitutes agreement. I assume that if the two had always done proper written contracts a simple thumbs up emoji wouldn't have been sufficient in the court's eye. I guess the lesson is: If you are doing business, don't leave any ambiguity. Always has been.
