Has anyone made a video on the topic of AI theft yet or can they direct me to a thread discussing this? English voice actors and Twitter have been on fire all day after Erica Lindbeck was hounded off social media for daring to ask that people not steal her voice to use in AI generated content without her consent.

As an anecdote on the whole Youtuber/Discord thing, my girlfriend took a shot at becoming a streamer and one of the multiple things she cited as souring her on the whole thing was her associated Discord drawing in people with uncomfortable parasocial attachments. I think with the implication that since her content skewed family/kid friendly, she quickly ended up with inappropriately young people desperately wanting to be friends.  And we're talking someone just breaking into the scene, usually streaming to an audience of like, maybe 10 people on average. So I can't even imagine the layers of protection much larger names need to keep people at a sane distance. Dawgstar posted:AI bros really are the new crypto bros. It's not like there's a universal rulebook you can look at anywhere so it's mostly just people copying whatever someone else is doing. Other youtubers don't edit or censor any of that and seem to do just fine for themselves so it's maybe a dash algorithm with a whole lot of superstition.

I got around to watching some more of Matttt's stuff, and this video is really great. maybe needs a little more editing and revising to cut out a few "but it didn't end there!" lines, but it's a great, concise view on the origin of the teenage mutant ninja turtles as an indie project into the juggernaut it is today. I didn't know a lot of this stuff. I THINK I have one of the old graphic novels in a cabinet, I should fish that out. I never actually read any of the original TMNT run of comics, despite being all in on the ninja turtles poo poo when I was a kid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMDp9T_4bDs&hd=1 It's pretty cool that apparently, after all that time, all the reboots and under different writers and artists, the two of them came together a couple times to continue that original run of comics and with the final collaboration between the two, finished the original series once and for all. that's really neat.

It's a good vibe. I think my takeaway is that a creator has to actively foster the community they want. If you don't want your chat to be parasocial creeps, you have to shut that poo poo down immediately or otherwise it gets out of control

It amazes me still that when creator discords first took off a bunch of them had NSFW channels. IIRC some big name's discord had to nuke theirs from orbit after some minors started posting their candid pictures in there and lied about their age.

When I played WoW classic the Goon guild I joined had a NSFW channel. They seem to be just, like, a thing that exists in a lot of gaming Discords. It's weird.

I paid for the Streetfight radio Patreon for awhile for the bonus shows and it had a discord link and even they had a NSFW channel. A lot of discords I am on have a policey that anything *vaugely* saucy - to the point of "lol, this eggplant looks like a dick" - goes in the #nsfw channel. Just because it's labeled #nsfw doesn't mean that it's someone's nudes.

The big problem with maintaining and managing a not safe for work channel for any kind of mixed audience is that it requires a moderating team willing and able to soberly read every single post in that channel, filter it for explicitly illegal content, enforce tagging and CW rules, and set policy all while dealing with the kinds of users who want to share their spank material with other fans of, uh, Alpharad I guess.

I was just asking to get an idea of where it is a problem because I'm in 4 creator discords (3 about podcasts, one for LPers) and none of them even have NSFW channels. Everything else is either artist following thanks to twitter slowly falling apart like a jalopy in a 1954 Looney Tunes cartoon or the goon Genshin Impact one with a general 'Don't post porn' rule so my idea of what is or isn't crazy to post was way skewed.  It's one thing to be in the Townsends discord and someones posting art of him as a blonde stacked like Jessica Rabbit buying wonderbread vs 'Guy who keeps getting every form of artblock known to man and does Kingdom Hearts doodles of every possible crossover imaginable when people throw him suggestions' discord. Those discords, while all fandom discords being open to all, are all small enough that their total member counts are sub-50 and their regulars are probably sub-20 at the biggest. I also follow the podcast for "Worldbuilding for Masochists" which offical discord is 400+ and has a #nsfw topic... but as it's a podcast for, well, worldbuilding and "how a culture views sex" is a fairly important topic that makes sense.
