Great start to the basho. Obviously another nozeki basho is a bummer, but all 3 ozeki prospects won, as did all three top division newcomers, plus Teru. I'm hopeful we're starting to push through our top card torpor. Pretty happy with my team so far. What a great closing match for today! Was lucky enough to catch it live on hotel tv. Went by the kokugikan yesterday but of course it was closed since everyone is in Nagoya. Does anyone happen to know where else I might be able to pick up a physical copy of the banzuke?

I usually put on midnight sumo to fall asleep to during the bashos. I woke up and randomly saw the Teru/Nishikigi bout and thought I dreamt it. Absolutely wild to see the big man thrown like that. You can tell that Oho had a plan going up against Hokuseiho and struggled a bit when it didn't work out. Still managed to recover though!

You could see Teru's knee buckle inward on the kick from Tobizaru in the slow mo replay. If we had prop bets on him going kyujo before tomorrow, I'd wager all the money I had. Sucks to see an injury but props to the flying monkey for gutting out a win with his mawashi literally at his neck.

It's clear to me now that Fluffdaddy is using their influence as an SA Admin to rig the world of sumo in their favor. What a match between Tobi/Teru! On the Natto vid (and I'm sure NHK feed in general), as soon as the result is called you can see a guy in the background immediately stand up and yeet his seat cushion. The bummer is, I'm going to be at the September basho and it's looking like Teru won't be.

Day 3 thoughts: Black mawashi Meisei is a new dude, all about the business and unlucky to lose against Abi today, I like seeing rikishi like him bounce back a bit and he's looked strong so far. Ura is consistently entertaining. Daiesho with the early lead in the Ozeki race, Hoshoryu looks to be stuck on the same hump he has been for a year but Wakamotoharu could still get there. Tight, but I still think we'll come out of this Basho with a sole new Ozeki. Teru is fighting an uphill battle, those knees are creaking and seeing the king of the mountain look so shaky is hard going. He looked terrible at the end of the bout and those knees looked about to give out. Half a gold star to whoever tied Tobizaru's mawashi, if it was a little tighter I don't think he would've lasted. Also, did anyone else catch this shot of the lady ducking for cover from the zabutons flying after Nishikigi's kinboshi?Gold. Absolutely insane fight from Tobizaru. Teru's undoubtedly compromised but still, if ever a match deserved the zabuton storm that one did. Was worried the gyoji was going to stop the match to re-tie Tobi's mawashi. I think Teru had it up to about his shoulder by the end.

CHAOS SHODAI Also, what an incredible match between Teru and Tobi. I think if the mawashi had been a little tighter, Teru would have had it, but that in no way takes away from how hard Tobi worked for that gold star.

I really hope people start treating these kyuji tournaments as the black spots on the Sumo Association that they really are. I know that this really isn't anything new but it seems like the age of steady yokozuna may be over given the atrocious attempts made to shame not just them but also the ozeki they promote into destroying themselves like this.
