I have a penis.
How the hell are indies making enough money to have 4+ traveling tv performers? My friend runs an indie promotion and even with 200+ ticket sales he says he barely makes any profit. Granted the performers all get at least $75 per show guaranteed, which is good considering some lower on the card don’t get paid unless a certain amount of tickets are sold to the show in many organizations. It’s just crazy how slim the margins are in indie wrestling promotions.

Around here it's former Chikara guys doing favors for guys they trained with. I think the big push now is to get podcasts and smaller wrestling related companies (or fans with money to blow) to sponsor a wrestler to either offset some or all of the cost. It's the only thing that makes sense to me when I go to a show with some decent names on the card but they may top out at 100 people in attendance. Or you only pay the TV talent on the hope the lower end guys work for free but can make it up in Merch because the show will be better attended.

Another consideration is how little a lot of professional wrestlers make despite being on TV and how much you can make off pictures/merch. There are some really over independent wrestlers that make a lot more than people you see on AEW a couple times a month.

I had a blast at the Vegas show during Double or Nothing Weekend; I saw Drugz Bunny's last match alive when he faced Effy trying to get him to do drugs. It was fun even though it was a double header with GCW so I had been at the venue from 7 PM and the Hoodslam Show started at Midnight. Wish it wasn't in the shadiest part of Vegas though tbh

Sponsors go a long way toward turning a profit. Some indies will also purposely eat poo poo on a bigger show's budget to get big names like Suzuki just so they can draw bigger sponsors and crowds later for smaller shows.

Yes. Jeff Hardy is a carny and found a way to juice ticket sales to a concert by just appearing at a wrestling show beforehand.

Merch can also be a crapshoot, though. Fans in some regions/at some promotions' shows are more or less likely to buy merch. I went to the Catalyst show on Saturday in Brooklyn and nobody was having any luck moving merch, not even the women on the show. House of Glory crowds seem to buy more merch as NYC crowds go. And then you'll sell more merch on southern indie shows because it's such a tradition.

I wonder how much cash folks make on signed 8x10s; I would assume a decent amount?

they’re not hard to travel with, so I guess that’s the easiest money possible.

Ethan HD used to sell random comics and Funko pops at his table which always cracked me up (makes sense once you realize he owns a comic book store). It’s always cool to see a wrestler hype up their other hustles; Viva Van owns a makeup company and will bring her stuff along.

Cara Noir injury update. His foot's really hosed. Going to be out 12 months, and that's if everything goes to plan.

quote:

Today I met with specialist orthopaedic foot surgeon Mr Nima Hiedari. He was very direct with me which was extremely helpful, but I’m also slightly struggling to process his diagnosis.

He told me I have sustained a devastating injury to my mid foot. I have four fractures and a number of bone chips which were caused through a major dislocation to the cuboid bone.

Mr Heidari suspects he’ll be able to operate in the next two weeks, but the prognosis is not great. It will be 3 months before I can weight-bare again and a year to get back to loaded dynamic movements. It will not be clear for another 12 months if I’ll be able to return to wrestling or not.

Mr Heidari is now consulting with an expert radiologist, and his surgical partner, to make a plan for my surgery - I should know more next week regarding a surgery schedule.

I’m obviously devastated, but again I’m extremely grateful to you all for your support.

For context, Mr Heidari was formerly head of orthopaedics at the Royal London hospital, the hospital that originally misdiagnosed my injury in A&E, and where I’ve struggled to get appropriate treatment for the past 14 weeks.

Mr Heidari no longer works at Royal London due to the difficult conditions the NHS is currently experiencing, so your support is a massive lifeline at a time when there would be little hope of a return to wrestling for me if I was at the mercy of the NHS.

Thank you again.

I think 8x10s are a bit weird because for the fan if you buy them before the show or at intermission they are a pain in the rear end to try to keep in decent shape. Some shows will sort of kick everyone out the second it's over cause it's a timed rental too, or wrestlers who fight before intermission will leave immediately after. I've known a few wrestlers who were excited because the 8x10 I bought was the last they had and they didn't have to lug it around anymore.

Although I say this, and meanwhile I have signed 8x10s of Masha, Pancakes & Abby Jane, Thick & Juicy 1 (Willow & Faye) and an 8x10 drawing of a baby hedgehog Willow Nightingale signed by her. But yea I usually prefer stickers and pins cause they are easier to get out of the show in decent shape. My GF loves to get shirts and weird merchandise anyone sells (last show we were at she got a Riley Sheppard sword & Jeff Cannonball drink cozy).

Went to "AIW Absolution XVI" tonight, had a complete blast. Front row, took my wife and kids, and saw the bloodiest match I've ever seen. Got hit with blood, which wasn't great. I think the guy (Joshua Bishop) bladed a little too hard. It made the Hangman match from a year or two back look fairly tame. It was against Filthy Tom Lawlor, who was so covered in this other guy's blood that he looked like a flesh golem in the end. Wonderful and stupid.

And I got to see Matt Cardona lose an indie championship in the main event. Not that I think anyone cares about AIW spoilers but just in case.

What a great time, holy crap.

Oh, and I got a fist bump from Eric Bischoff as he looped around the ring. That was neat, I guess :)

Anyone going to this DEFY show in Eatonville next week? Looks like a more minor event that’s not getting a ton of promotion, but it’s got a solid card and it’s for a good cause, and it’s basically the same distance for me as Washington Hall, so I’m planning on checking it out.

Did not venture much to watch the show inside since the venue was like a billion degrees inside, workrate wise probably the best show to happen at 880, but that's mostly because it is a trainee school. Was funny since I was tabling for Pittsburgh DSA I got there super early so the wrestlers were just calling their matches in the ring and Edith was unmasked so I was trying to avoid going in and chatting up with folks. While waiting for my table she goes out to the open street fair happening nearby and goes "Oh heyyyy" lol.

Just wish this show happened Friday night so I wouldn't have missed the stuff happening at Tekko

So, it used to be 8:00 sharp back when they were airing on FITE last year, because they had a set time for the livestream going up. Now that they're on Wremix with delayed premieres, they're a lot more relaxed with it. I've been outside past 8 before and didn't miss a thing.

I usually get to Washington Hall around 7:00, but the line varies depending on how big the show is. The line for Year Six wrapped around the side of the building and down the block, but the last one I went to barely had anyone in line until well after 7:30. It also depends on the VIP line, which gets in first. GA tickets often don't go in until close to 8, and then they give people time to grab beers and food.

Speaking of which, I highly recommend you eat there. The food counter at Washington Hall doesn't look like much, but they partner with some local restaurants and the stuff they serve is surprisingly very good.
