Pretty sure most ocean plastic is from fishing nets, with consumer waste well below that. From memory, plastic bottles are the biggest proportion of that consumer waste source. Plastic straws made up less than 0.1%, so we know who has lobbying dollars to spend and who doesn’t.

I think the banning of straws wasn't so much about what had the biggest effect but a start to a much larger project just to get people acclimated to gradual replacement of plastic items. Straws were probably the easiest but most ubiquitous item to replace.

It is a pretty aggressive way to express that though. I disagree. It's not like an employee wanting to quit will be sat down with the manager for a spirited bargaining session. I've worked lovely service jobs before and this is the exact type of aggressive poo poo they pull to try and scare people out of quitting.

Whereas we chopped all of our forests down and literally started the industrial revolution to get access to deeper and deeper sources of coal because we'd already mined and burned everything that was closer to the surface, and then reaped the rewards of being the first industrialised nation to get a stranglehold on the world, colonise the gently caress out of it, and hoard its resources for our own benefit. You don't get to be on the high horse now given the damage we already did. Like yes two wrongs don't make a right and climate science is a relatively recent development but '-istan' countries and the rest of the developing world absolutely have a right to point out the rank hypocrisy of viewpoints such as yours which try to claim the moral high ground. It literally has the loving phrase "an employee cannot quit", that's absolutely the message they're trying to convey while being 100% incorrect and illegal. Anything else is merely icing on the turd to try and give it a molecule-thin veneer of technical legitimacy.

This is part of the cable that supplied power from the house to the breaker panel to the poolshed where the pumps are. There used to be a bit more tape on it. Previous owners installed it like that and left the cable on the floor. As the pumps are below ground level there was some occasional water ingress. It has managed to zap me twice and when I pulled it out of the water at one point it angrily steamed for a few minutes before deciding to continue passing current. Inside the house it's on a regular 32A breaker with no RCD. In the poolshed it's connected to a 40A breaker with a faulty RCD. I replaced it with a nice tidy box using wago connectors and mounted it in a safe place, next step is replacing the breakers.

Not an image, but its kinda cursed... Remember the classic Urine Good Health video? Well the guy who made that also made a video about Trepanation! as it does have some graphic footage of both modern medical and tribal village surgery. Most of the video is people just talking about it, though, some people who have had it done to them or have done it to themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfgsBN4rgXU Wee fucked around with this message at 11:01 on Jul 12, 2023 |
