it's been like 20 years since i've gone there but i'd say it's more of a sweet smell i guess. i remember it being nice at first but you never really get used to it, so you kinda smell it all the time. i can absolutely see it becoming tiresome

I work at a place that smells like gear oil. You go nose blind to it mercifully quickly, but if I take more than a few days off the first hit of it when I get in the door is rough

This reminds me of something that I tried to find this week. There was a live cd distro of debian with demo of UT2k3 (not 2004, the earlier, weirder one, back when UT was supposed to get yearly updates). The whole thing was pretty interesting, as it contained the necessary nvidia (and only nvidia, iirc?) and sound drivers, which let you boot straight into the game. Never could get my copy working (probably because I had cheap poo poo radeon 9200), and there are poasts on the net confirming the thing worked but can't find the iso anymore. I always thought this could shake things a little, esp for internet cafes or lanparties, but I guess the long-rear end unpacking of the game assets rendered the whole thing unfeasable. Oh well. Back to Cube 2 Sauerbraen and xbill on Lonux, then!!!

This latest analysis confirmed the previously detected presence of aragonite, quartz, and feldspar, as well as calcite and clay minerals. However, it contradicted the earlier claim that the blood-red color comes from iron oxides; only trace amounts were found. Rather, the TEM analysis revealed the presence of the iron-rich nanospheres. "In order to be a mineral, atoms must be arranged in a very specific, crystalline, structure," said Livi. "These nanospheres aren't crystalline, so the methods previously used to examine the solids did not detect them."

steel is up to about 99.8% iron, depending on the alloy.
