And here's me thinking how loving horrible it is that we think that lovely jobs getting automated is bad, when in theory it should make everyone happier on account of the machine doing a better job and the people who did the job previously now being free to do better stuff. I know that's not how any of this works, but god drat, imagine if we could have technology just straight up make our lives better.

And it’s not that the machine is doing a better job. His only metric of “better” is the machine closed out a bunch of tickets instantly. It’s actually actively worse for everyone involved but him. A human customer service rep might try to help out more than they’re trained to do because of basic human empathy. A machine isn’t going to do that. It’s only metric by this guys own admission is how quickly it can close a ticket which means it’s going to do the least possible help because that’s the quickest path towards closing a ticket

One of the jokes in The Jetsons was that everyone had a two hour work day due to automation. Turns out the reality was that people would just get fired and the skeleton crew that was left would be worked 10 hours a day.

Productivity is a bad measure too, what if instead of making more and more stuff, we just stopped and chilled a bit more instead of getting a new TV? And like nature and stuff?

Weirdly enough 'therapy' is not a suggested treatment for depression by Kaiser Permanente Though they do offer free access to a mindfulness app and guided meditation app, along with a free trial of a life coach app!

In my late 20s I talked to some sort of screening-pysch at Kaiser, about how I felt I drinking too much, was sad, and wanted to speak with a therapist. She told me I wasn't drinking too much, that the way I felt wasn't unusual and that was the end of that. Kaiser is garbage at everything except keeping you a somewhat productive worker, until the $ outweighs the benefits and they just let you go.

I work in medical billing and every practice I've worked or even just communicated with tries to deal with them as little as possible.

Kaiser is fine from a customer facing end as long as you only need the basic stuff they provide in house at their facilities -Mental health isn't one of those areas they do well, btw. Unfortunately healthcare, especially insurance is not a standard good with consumers that can shop around and find the shop that sells what they want. You're generally stuck with what your employer provides, and can't just opt out of health for a season or two, or comparison shop for the best hospital while bleeding out. "Well, I plan on being healthy this year, so can go with the tin tier plan" and "No no, we don't plan on having complications with this pregnancy, and certainly not while we're visiting family out of state" are not the same as "I will buy the cereal that tastes the most yummy," or "I like the color red, so will pay extra for the car in that color, or delay my purchase until it's in stock"

Kaiser lost a lawsuit last year re: their mental health services in CA. A whole buncha people killed themselves as a result of Kaiser's laughably bad mental health services. Kaiser's great if you're pregnant or have a family and just need basic services. You're pretty hosed if you need anything more tho!
