The seasonal model for Destiny 2 was pretty cool until it became pretty clear they were putting next to no real effort into generating seasonal content.

Every season feels exactly the same.

Game Pass Core is confirmed. Comes into effect on September 14. "More than 25" games at launch, with more added 2-3 times a year (As opposed to the twice a month the other Game Pass tiers get)

I wonder if this means Gamepass Console now has online play included.

or is that still limited to Ultimate.

Because at that point, just pay the extra dollar a month for "real" gamepass.

It does not, presumably for that reason. Core is just Gold renamed and with a curated selection of Gamepass titles instead of your handful of GWG titles every month.

Compared to the 70+ Gold games I have collected, those 25 Core games are way better selection.
Although why take Core, when you can get an Console Game pass for 1 dollar more?

edit: No online gaming? Well that's dumb.
edit2: So basically we have last moments to get cheap Ultimate Game pass for gold now? 2 years of ultimate for a price of 3 years of Gold is pretty decent.
Paid 120e for the gold plus 15 for the 1 month of ultimate.

Are you planning to hit up the Modern Warfare revival on period-appropriate hardware?

To be honest it's been odd that Xbox Live still existed as a concept so many years into Game Pass existing. They'll have wanted to change this for a long time.

The list 25 games is actually fairly solid - if you were a long time Gold only subscriber this would a massive drop for you.

Ultimate even at full price is still great value for me personally so all academic.

If the single player is anything like the first two games it's not worth playing anyway. Don't play payday without friends. Or just don't play payday.

I was just thinking about the rights stuff with all the Activision chat, and I wonder where the rights to all the old 8 and 16 bit era Jurassic Park games are. Way forward or whoever should do the same thing they did for the ninja turtle games, would be an immediate buy for me. Maybe the SNES fps sections could run at a playable framerate in 2023.

no need to plan, I have already been doing it since I found out that matchmaking was fixed. love to play with my 360 controller, plus I keep my 360 connected to play a couple other games that aren't on BC from time to time like Forza 4. but I have all the CODs installed on my Series X anyway so it wouldn't matter too much if something happened

but even so, unless MS plans on overhauling the backwards compatibility system I am pretty sure any issues with 360 connectivity would also affect newer consoles since the games themselves are just running in a glorified emulator, which is why game invites still need to be done through the 360 Guide even if you're running them in BC

Yeah it's bad with friends and would be unplayable solo (can you even?) or with randos without voice comms.

I originally played 2 with some goons and was like "eh this is pretty lovely" and then my RL friends were like "hey let's play payday2!" and I was like "okay!" without saying anything about it other than I had tried it and I wanted to see how they liked it. After one match that went wrong in the last 2 minutes due to the nonstop cop rush they were like "eh, that kinda sucks" and I was like "yuuuuuup let's play warzone"

was it the ps2 or ps3 that had the previous gen hardware in it at launch for backwards compatibility and then they managed to emulate it and removed them on the redesigns? That's probably what is being thought here.. The Series definitely don't have 360/one hardware though

It would be a much better game with a complete rebalance to eliminate the zombie horde gameplay. It's just l4d with objective minigames and zombies that shoot constantly. I think there's a good game concept in there but I don't think they landed on it at all.

That was the PS3 fat that had the PS2 chip and it was part of why it released at "599 US DOLLARS"

The next PS3 had software emulation that worked for most PS2 games but that got patched out lol

lmao yeah that's it, because the ps3 cell chip was some weird alien tech that no one knew how it worked when it launched so there would be no way to get BC going quickly on that

It's funny how nintendo managed to dodge BC for most of its existence by just massively changing the media form factor every console generation. And then when they do bring in the ability to run old games have it just be via subscription or re-buying that poo poo again. Nintendo, Sony Nintendon't

The PS2 has most PS1 hardware in it and it was able to use software emulation to deal with what was missing with over 99% compatibility (I think a few obscure PS1 games don't work on PS2s, and the different PS2 revisions have different incompatible games).

The PS3 at launch, as mentioned, cost 599 US dollars because it had basically all of the PS2 hardware in it at launch, with a similar 99%+ compatibility. Later fat PS3s (including all the PAL territory PS3s) removed the Emotion chip, with software emulation in its place which wasn't great so compatibility dropped to something like 85% with some of the 15% mostly working but crashing frequently and having massive slowdown and stuff like that. Eventually recognizing that keeping the PS2 hardware in was costing them severely (especially since you could buy an actual PS2 for like $99 MSRP new), they removed all this PS2 hardware for later fat PS3s and every slim/super slim model, although they sold a few dozen PS2 games digitally and all of these work fine on all PS3 models (it's pure software emulation and games that didn't give them grief for this).

But fundamentally, Xbox 360 back-compat works on the principle of an emulation layer. There is some hardware assistance and - yes - some 'secret sauce' (Microsoft didn't want to be drawn on how the emulator supports Xbox 360's VMX128 vector units, for example), but the team is now at the point now where everything an Xbox 360 can do, its emulator can mirror in software.
