I first heard songs off Demanufacture when I was 10 or 11 and it rewired my brain chemistry. I might have ended up a normal kid if not for that album. So when it comes to seeing posts about if it fits it's kind of funny to me because Fear Factory is how I ended up listening to bog standard Industrial stuff like NIN or Ministry.

Though I guess for my part I was surprised to see Darkest Days on there, because I really don't think of Stabbing Westward in that context.

So I guess in conclusion, Industrial is a land of contrasts.

The human animal is a beautiful and terrible creature, capable of limitless compassion and unfathomable cruelty.
I appreciated the Self Bias Resistor callout- I feel like that's one of the best songs on the album in terms of pure "we have this riff and we are treating it like the main melody of a dance song" thing that you get in industrial rock/metal. Helps that it slaps.

I do ultimately think it fits, although I don’t think it’s just because of the Venn diagram overlap of the fans. I’m sure a lot of industrial fans would also enjoy SYL - City but that doesn’t mean I think it’s industrial at all.

That drat album was everywhere though, I first heard some of those songs without realizing it because they were on the Carmageddon soundtrack

The aforementioned Stabbing Westward was a notable one, as was Gravity Kills

Machines of Loving Grace is far better than either

Pop Will Eat Itself, maybe?

Sister Machine Gun perhaps, although I put them in a different category since they were at least on WaxTrax. Burn is a decent album

Clearly Consequence of Sound is scraping this thread for hits. They followed up yesterdays decisive list with yet another Top Ten. This one is a top ten industrial tracks penned by the dude from 3TEETH.

I still don’t listen to that band but not hating on his persona choices.

It's a fine list.

I'm low key surprised by the Ministry track on here, because my take on 3TEETH was that they always felt to me like they were specifically trying to recreate Ministry's Filth Pig sound so would have expected something from that album. Also yeah totally the kind of top ten that makes sense for 3TEETH though otherwise.

I used to like Millennium a lot but have kind of grown tired of it. In the end I seem to have drifted over to liking the more chill and electronic FLA albums the most - Civilization is my number one FLA album, followed by TNI, AirMech, Echogenetic…

FLA is a weird favorite band for me in that while I consider them one of my absolute favorites, they sure have a lot of albums I just do not care about at all or actively dislike. The first couple (Caustic Grip is where FLA starts for me), IED, Artificial Soldier, Epitaph, Wake Up The Coma…

I hated Hard Wired when it came out. It grew on me quite a bit.

Hard Wired could use a remaster. Doesn't sound great. TNI too, while we're at it.

Edit - Evidently Hard Wired was remastered on vinyl with a distribution of 300 copies. lol welp. Wouldn't mind having that in my little collection of records.

I'd argue up to Civilization. I like the Delerium leakage in that album. Artifical Soldier is sort of the beginning of the moden day FLA sound it seems.

AS & IED are pretty tedious with all the lame chugging. Echogenetic had a lot of potential with the sound refresh but ultimately the songs weren’t that memorable. Wake Up the Coma was unexpectedly fun; I actually genuinely like it. I keep forgetting Mechanical Soul exists. It’s virtually devoid of anything memorable.

The recent Noise Unit albums are much better so I still have some naive hope they can put out another decent release, however I have a bad feeling a lot of it was due to the late Jeremy Inkel who was taken much too soon :(

TNI got remastered last year! Took a while for my local record store to get it in, but glad to finally have it to go with my original Caustic Grip LP.

Absolutely NOT trying to turn shill for Consequence, but Al did the top ten list too.

https://consequence.net/2023/07/al-jourgensen-essential-industrial-albums-crate-digging/

His picks absolutely align with what Ministry was and how they progressed through their seminal years.

They also dropped a Top 50 Industrial Songs Of All Time! (or at least up until the 20th of July in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty-three).
https://consequence.net/2023/07/best-industrial-songs-list/

It mostly reads like a greatest hits compilation Rhino records might put out as a tacky box set. Some of the goofy outliers that showed up in the Artists lists, and I'm sure the Filter song at number 8 is going to roll some eyes here.

The number one song is from 1989.
