I figured that'd be news to some people, if you're a sheep you can exit and enter. it's another one of those "you must know the exact mechanism" noita things, there's a specific section of the exit that triggers the collapse and it only does it if you as the default entity crosses it, teleport means you never touch it at all and polymorph means the player entity doesn't touch it, merely an innocuous sheep.

Give sheep and other "harmless" critters the ability to wield wands so that poly'd players can at least try to fight back. Yes this will make poly less effective against some enemies. Yes this will result in players getting owned by a fish who picked up a wand of nuke. Working as intended imo

In contrast, burning and toxins deal damage comically fast in nightmare. Which one one hand, I hate, but on the other hand, I must admit is a very distinctly Noita kind of dickishness

New patch out on the beta branch that the discord server is tearing apart. Some new materials and reactions. The new materials are largely unobtainable outside of pure blind luck and a lot of the reactions are still being worked out but apparently some things interact with lava differently now. There's speculation that this is prep for a larger, perhaps "meatier" update soon.

I should just give in and play with the tinker with wands everywhere mod since it would increase the fun im having but i really wish i could pull off a vanilla win. Got close to the bottom of the vault in a run but wasn't strong enough to survive.

I was getting frustrated when I started playing so installed a mod that regenned health a bit during play. This let me get used to the later levels and eventually I turned it off once I got better at the game.

I think a big leap in my ability to succeed at the game was working out when I was tough enough or properly equipped to go back up the chasm between the snowy depths and the mines to fight bosses for better spells and wands or to dig to the overgrown cavern to pick up better gear there. That buys a chance to survive long enough to get to the good gear in Hiisi base and the jungle and then to either tear the vault apart for goodies or carefully pick my way through to the final area. The vault always seems more hazardous to me than the Temple of the Art, the level design is a little too open and it’s too easy to get hit with electricity or acid.

My gameplan is usually to try and get teleport, digging (through hard stuff if I'm already at Hiisi base or deeper), and a wand that either has a personal fireball thrower on it or else a trigger with dual-cast explosive box and plasma (or other box igniting spell). This lets me go and kill the Alchemist pretty easily for Greek spells and/or wand refresh for infinite black holes and healing (when I eventually find a heal spell). On the way back I'll pop over and kill the Pyramid Boss, and maybe go to the gold biome for a cool 250k. If I can dig hard rock quickly enough I'll check the wands east of the Snowy Depths, and the spell chamber west of Hiisi Base (or use tele potion if I have it). If I've got edit wands then I'll drop in at WandMart (Overgrown Cavern) for the spells and HP. By then I've probably got 5 orbs so I'll kill Kolmi and go back up to kick off NG+. I'm hoping to repeat that process to get the "make it to NG+++ and complete the game" achievement but I've not managed it yet. Currently 2 parallel worlds over to try and get the right perks. Can't be bothered breaking reroll machines so I'm just winging it and hoping for the best. I also want to try the <5 minute finish but that is hard as hell for me. I don't think I'll ever manage the <1 minute or no-hit clears. I've made it through one level with no hits, but that's about it. I don't think I have the patience to do better than that.

I play exclusively for funny stuff happening, and like to die in comical ways. so I use a few mods to enable that. -even spell rarity distribution makes good stuff spawn early -wand edit everywhere and no shuffle to remove the major negative RNG of wands. -picking up gold heals you. I definitely become overpowered easily, but I also play like a dumbass and suffer for it just as easily afterward

I'm not trying the beta, but saw some of the meat biomes on Youtube. Seems like a strange addition, but I'm assuming more will be made of it in the future. My crazy wand is still wrecking poo poo on NG++ (with some additional damage adds), and I'm just searching for the orbs I need to finish it for the pillar achievement. Orbs in New Game are a nightmare to find, but having just written that I remember that I can make guiding powder with *checks wiki* Flummoxium and Unstable Teleportatium. That's now my next plan. 14 hour run just ended badly thanks to a poly monster. 44k HP, toughest creatures took 2 shots to kill. Got to NG+++ and on the hunt for the last 5 orbs needed to complete my quest. drat it - I should have entered The Work instead of trying to end it by getting to NG++++.

The greatest quality of life change the menus could get would be a "move" mode for spells. Right-click and drag and spells will automatically be moved left or right to create space for the held spell (unless there just isn't any). Would take so much tedium out of rearranging wands

Haha yeah. Chainsaw is a safer igniter for the boxes, but without explosive immunity its still very dangerous. I avoid plasma for anything that isn't specialist use I can predict (like digging or purpose-built boss killer). A single pixel of terrain can ruin your day.

Another thing this game has that's like nethack is bones files apparently. I had no idea ghosts existed until I got straight-up out-dueled by one from full health, which was pretty embarrassing  Is it possible for a ghost to spawn with like a super wand and instantly destroy you?

This only applies if you're not using any mods. Having any mod enables disables this. The ghost is Kummitus, and it only spawns when you have 35+ bones files. From that article: quote:Bones files are only created when: Basically, when you die, one of your wands is picked and saved for later. The ghost picks from any of these random wands with no considerations for type, spells, or relative strength, so you can get a little pea shooter or a ghost that spawns with your one-click death machine.
