It makes sense from like, a completely detached and robotic executive point of view. The movie based on a big musical made a lot of money, so if we give him the BIGGEST musical we'll make even MORE money

Also they deliberately chose to release it on the same day as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as a counterprogramming move to scoop up the young female demographic (the same reason they often release "chick flicks" on the same weekend as the Super Bowl) but the maneuver failed and it only made $27 million domestic over its run. The Star Wars film made over half a billion domestic and turned out to be more popular with women than men, based on audience rankings.

The original trailer for this is funny, because when you see it in the theater without knowing the title yet, it comes off as a schlocky horror movie with a strangely good cast. Then bam, there's that mustache at the end.

Looks great, but now I just want a straightforward 19th century horror movie with bored rich dilettantes getting the Satan scared into them and ectoplasm spooks coming outta every orifice to gently caress up the living.

Jesus y’all he’s British and didn’t even get on the air til 99 with Spaced when he was 29. Which was 24 years ago. I think some of you are just noticing how compressed 2017-now felt - we’re old.

I've done a full 180 by now, because I definitely remember finding him to be a breath of fresh air in Ghost Protocol but the character's schtick basically runs out by Rogue Nation and yeah, now he's just this whiny aging nerd. I guess practically everybody in MI is trying to hide how old they are for what they're doing on screen but there's a certain weariness to Pegg that sticks out.

The accent reminds me of Christoph Waltz's accent. Why, I don't know, but that's what sprang to my mind.

Also Neil Gaiman being in this somewhere is also kinda weird, but I gotta admit, he does have a real nice voice.

The gag where Pegg gives Hunt directions but they don’t account for verticality is getting kind of old now.

Speaking of MI characters aging, Cruise’s surgery looked pretty passable for a long time… but in this new movie he’s starting to look like a guy wearing a Tom Cruise mask at times.

Basically I'm in on MI for fun villains and Tom Cruise doing cool stunts, and usually they deliver on at least half of that. Whether it's Pegg wisecracking, or god forbid Jeremy Renner, the sidekicks just get tedious unless it's Ving Rhames or the solid ensemble they had for MI3.

Tom Cruise’s best performance was in Magnolia. He was so drat good in that film, he put everything into it, that I get slightly annoyed at all his other films as (physical performances aside) he feels like he is holding a little something back and coasting on natural talent.
