in Bannerlord I laid siege to an independent city after buying up all their food and waiting until their garrison starved, then rolled in with less than a hundred dudes and took it

now I got no money, half my men left, and a fief that hates my guts, all sandwiched in between 2 bigass kingdoms eyeballing me. things are going well!

I remember buying a key to mount and blade for like 5$ or so a little over a decade ago and it's so insane to see how the man and wife team basically created such an awesome game

but also if you dont like that absolutely pain in the rear end escort quest you don't deserve the game. you dont appreciate it

for a long time, the ai couldnt declare war on you if you were the owner of a fief but not a high enough clan level to form a kingdom. because you didnt have access to the diplomacy tab, the ai didnt consider you a diplomacy target. if you waited long enough and rode around kicking over all the rebel towns you could empty the garrisons and set the recruitment budgets to 0 and rake in the dough for as long as you wanted

it's finally in a pretty good place for single player campaigns. there are some multiplayer mods that are loving buckwild (and also like... awful) like the open world weird mmo one which has extremely old school style factional hate between clans. it's a bannerlord mmo ultima style. insane

bannerlord really flubbed their multiplayer though. last i checked crpg was alive but native wasnt, partially because the servers did not work for many people. i think their multiplayer team had some insane guy who insisted on trying to make a terrible esport or something. OG M&B multiplayer and the various mods were fun as hell :rip:

Also if you've enver played some of the big warband overhauls like ACOK, Gekokoju, the star wars one, the insane fever dream one that is really hard to get working, the LOTR one, etc those are all good for a playthrough. also the viking official mod was neat

apparently the star wars one is all hosed up now

you could play Adventure mode in Forge: https://github.com/Card-Forge/forge/wiki

it's not a 100% clone, and has all the current cards, but it is cool for a few hours to go from bad pre-contructed to actual good deck

HELL SERPENT
Lipstick Apathy
I've just finished the Byzantine single-player campaign in Age of Empires 2, chronicling the exploits of Basil Boioannes in and around the city of Bari, in southern Italy, as he fights the Normans and the Lombards.

this was the first ever campaign that I've played, save the original Celt tutorial campaign, that I've beaten as-is, with no cheats or mods to back me up, which is why I'm particularly proud of it

the conceptual breakthrough I had, after watching high-level competitive AOE 2 for about a week and a half, was the use of "trash units"

Pikemen, which are anti-cavalry infantry, and Skirmishers, which are anti-archer ranged units, only cost food and wood

wood is available just about anywhere/everywhere, and food is [eventually] harvested from farms, and farms cost wood, so if you're building only those two units, then you'll effectively never run out of resources with which to build more units, as long as you keep the resources flowing

Sidebar posted:

as compared to using swordsman infantry, crossbowmen/arbalesters, or knights, all of which cost gold

this is important because in a 1v1 game, gold is a limited resource

in a 2v2 or larger team game, using trade carts will let you gain gold from your ally, and that is a truly infinite resource (where even wood from trees can eventually run out), but it can take a long time before you hit a critical mass of a long line of trade carts bringing you lots of gold

and the Byzantines are perfect for learning this style of gameplay, because they have a big discount to Pikemen and Skirmishers specifically

- if the enemy has cavalry, the pikemen counter them instantly
- if the enemy has archers, the skirmishers counter them instantly
- if the enemy has regular infantry, you don't have a specific bonus/advantage over them, but you're usually going to win just through sheer numbers
- if the enemy has siege weapons, pikemen can kill them even without a specific bonus/advantage over them

that just leaves fortifications like towers and castles, which you can destroy with trebuchets, which would be the only unit you'd make with a gold cost

and if the game lasts long enough* that you do manage to transition into a trade cart-infinite gold economy, then you can replace the pikemen with regular infantry, and you can replace the skirmishers with archers, but not a moment before, and you can win even without getting to do this.

I think I will try my next campaign as the Goths

___

* and the single-player campaign missions usually include a second allied player. The devs designed the missions this way so you could play the campaigns in co-op mode, but as a solo player, it just means there's always a computer ally to trade with.

Oh no. It is either an Easter egg or foreshadowing. The zero point is in the jungle and is visible, but is a petrified sphere at the moment. When you are with in a certain distance around the zero point you can hear faint slow zero point noises that are dubbed in the files as "Whale/wail call".

Not to far north from the zero point is Creeky compound which is a POI built over a collapsed portion of the island that once had The Herald tree. The Herald was the big bad at the end of Chapter 3 that caused the Chrome and reality zero to "pop". The "wobbly" noise heard in the video can only be heard around creeky compound at night and only with in a certain distance.

I'm hoping next Tuesday's update has something interesting to move the season story along. There is an "appartus" on top of one of the ancient temples in the jungle biome that the various npcs have been fiddling with and the last part of the latest secret quest chain said they figured out how to rebuild it and put the prisms in it. Now to see if rebuilding starts to happen. Plus there is this thing called the chalice of cubetastrophe and Optimus primers continued warnings.

Edit: plus there is still the earthquake "catastrophic" level of rumbling that never triggered last season so the speculation is earthquakes are coming back. AND there are files referencing "zero point lava" whatever that is. Could be red herrings though.

Idk but Optimus Prime seems to point to the zero point is hurt or is dying.

The zero point is the sentient life-force of the island/reality and is what all the big bads have been after. The popular theory at the moment is the zero point is greatly disminished or dying due repeated attacks on it. The island crumbling hasn't ever occurred and it could be that the zero point is not strong enough to keep the island/reality stable much longer.

Not yet, but epic does have a deal with paramount to do some collabs. One is most likely TNMT, but we don't know of any others beyond that. Star trek would be fun.
