The food section is 3 days and is 99% just waiting for the timer to count down, it's not actually time spent. The collectible steps aren't that long, you can whack through them in a couple of evenings with some podcasts.

The 250 of each map currency are the actual work/time intensive bit, but even then its via the achievements you might well be doing anyway for the other rewards.

Yeah if they just plop a dragon in everyone's inventory, a LOT of people will be pissed considering how much time/effort it takes to unlock them now.

But I'd rather everyone have a dragon than keep what we have. Same goes for student loan debt.

no, they're doing it even better, the new collection is supposedly actually really easy
but afaik you'll need both collections to unlock all the skyscale mastery skills, you won't get POF ones if you just have the new one lmao

Did this yesterday. It’s three:
- scales of the dragons
- administer medicine
- eggs

You also have 30 public events (one in each area) for four medicinal ingredients.

this is by no means a small demographic - look at how we got siege turtle just for co-op buddy mischief. combined with how conjures have never been close to mandatory (ignoring the turbo lovely balance that was launch gw2), plus by necessity needing to gut FGS's cooldowns or strength if it was turned into a kit and i can see why anet has never bothered reworking them into kits or something.

I do like the flavor of summoning neat weapons for allies, so I wouldn't get rid of it completely. My ideal way of reworking conjures would actually try to minimally impact what it does currently (i.e. not messing with uptime or the individual kits)

gandlethorpe posted:

Conjures should be revamped to be less janky, which would allow them to be a reliable "weapon swap" for situations when your main weapon is not a great choice. Their kits are actually really solid, but they way they work right now just encourages using them like single cast skills with extra steps while also potentially causing allies to be a hinderence. I think making them 2-charge skills with 30s recharge rather than summoning bundles would be the perfect way to keep them essentially the same but infinitely more intuitive. If they still want the sharing aspect, hell, make it summon one that only allies can pick up.

Skyscale is an awful grind if you approach it as a grind. Don't. Do like, one thing for it each time you log in and see it as a long term journey. You'll get there eventually and it won't kill your desire to play this game in the process.

Also for the ls4 mats either the return to achievements or converting eternal ice make that step so much easier. I cannot imagine having done all that before ice was an option, it must have really taken forever.

And on an unrelated note this is my first time actually playing during these festivals since they added achievements for them. Dang so many APs!

The skyscale was a mistake from a design perspective because it steps on the toes of the other mounts, rip springer completely obsoleted by a flying mount that can jump higher and dismounts into the griffon without the need of a mastery cooldown.

If you are going for skyscale just rip the bandaid off and open a wiki or addon and click on the 90 or so macguffins the collection wants you to pixel hunt for and just chill at the time gated parts.

:gowron::m10:
Springer has a great dismount skill. It's much faster at scaling mainly vertical terrain, even if those aren't common. It's also great for getting starting height for the griffon when there's nothing nearby to climb.

Edit: Oh you did mention the griffon thing. Yeah griffon's probably better now that air dismount exists. But it can still get going faster in a pinch, where as it takes a bit of time for skyscale to reach its apex.

Yeah for just hopping up things springer is way faster, the cc dismount is useful in all sorts of situations, and it doesn’t stick itself to any surfaces if it comes within ten yards of them. Not to mention griffon launching. I still use springer all the time.

To anyone else new to GW2 or anyone doing the Skyscale collections specifically, a mod like Taco or Blish Hud makes a huge difference with the locations of collection stuff all marked on your screen & map.
And in general, there are marker packs (that should work with either hud mod) that'll mark basically any other map collection or open world scavenger hunt related thing. Blish also has other useful tools like timers/scheduling modifications for world events and mechanics in raids.

And for anyone concerned about ANet's opinion on tools like this, its basically the stance of not caring as long as you don't do something abusive. Marker tools have never been an issue, but I think they get upset if the mods are either used to harass people (like calling people out for having trash DPS) or replacements for things like build management tools. (They wont know if you use it, but from what I remember, at least one mod tool had build swapping stuff removed from their mod per ANet's request)

I think they should have just had the 1 "fly around dragonfall looking for 2px wide objects" collection, doing it 3 times sucked but I liked the rest of the process. I just want to know why tf griffon was so exceedingly expensive. If they knocked the cost of that down by about 3/4 it'd be much fairer given how versatile skyscale is (I do love griffon but you hardly ever see ppl with one lately). I also have "opinions" on the starter maps/core maps and the fact that you're trotting around on a mount now that nobody else in the world has. I think if it were up to me I'd introduce a "core" mount that was like raptor (maybe without the leap?) and give that thing to ALL the npcs you have to fkn escort anywhere (looking directly at you Sergeant Jeyne who walks slower than any npc and stops any time you're like 3 steps ahead despite insisting they can look after themselves). Like make it less weird that "Here's a dinosaur to ride out of absolutely nowhere!" happens at level 10. Give a mount to everyone, f2p included, from some quest on the starter maps and sell more skins anet c'mon do I have to do everything?

I found the griffy expensive (for me at least i"m always broke af in game) and skyscale annoying but I'd be stoked (happy) if ppl got both cheaper / easier somehow bc it means new players can come join us on all the maps they're needed/useful on etc. We can all join in on the hover parties above major meta's & zoop about the place during treasure hunts (which, imo, there should be more of in the core game maps). The only problem I have with adding even more mounts is that I'm running out of numberpad buttons to bind them to and going broke buying skins all the jolly time.

Blish is not a mod, it's an overlay. It interacts with the mumble API built into the game. It's not like arc dps, which actually injects itself into the game process. They can't really ban it, and can't disable it without removing the mumble API.

Arc dps is explicitly allowed, btw, but does modify the game, so might cause crashes after patches until it gets updated. This isn't final fantasy, you won't get banned for calling someone out for trash dps.

YOU CAN NOT BUST THE KRUST
There’s a lot to unpack on the subject of calling out someone for having trash DPS. It’s pretty complicated.

Let’s assume we have a newer/casual person who isn’t aware of arcdps (since it’s not an official anet tool) or maybe doesn’t know how to install it, or set it up yet. They downloaded GW2 and just want to play the game. That description covers a huge population of players.

How are those folks going to know if their DPS is trash or not, if they have to go through all these extra steps and external websites/tools just to find out?

I guess you can base it off how fast your enemies die in comparison to others, but even that can be influenced by many factors, like having open world buffs, food, boons, party support, etc.

Anet just hasn’t created a good environment for players to test their DPS in-game.

There’s the training golem you can use, but you must know to find it and how to set it up properly.

There’s no daily or no quest line emphasizing the importance of using the golem, or a quest line focusing on your group support/DPS for doing end game stuff. They aren’t helping teach players class rotations or how to maintain their boons. Taimi isn’t talking about quickness or alacrity, you know?

So before calling someone’s DPS trash, please realize the game has already set them up to have trash DPS or poor boon uptime.

Unless we’re talking about CMs, or experienced groups/raids, high level fractals, that’s a different player population - different conversation.

Regardless, whether it’s hardcore or casual players, Anet needs to implement an in-game DPS meter and boon table. The entire community would benefit from it.

Yeah I'm not saying you should call out trash dps, just that you won't get banned for it.

And while what Jedah says is true, a dps doing less dps than supports is not fulfilling their role. Which in open world, who cares? But in group content they should probably be told, and should probably not be accepted in an experienced pug unless everyone is ok with carrying them.

Power mech is still a faceroller for any open world content, but if you want top dps with low effort you got to go pistol/pistol condi mech and uses about as many buttons as power mech.
