sounds good. i went with casual because i can be iffy on time limits so this is probably gunna be my first 'dick around on semi-easy mode warrior learning the things" and then replay it timed with scholar once i know the actual mechanics n stuff

i suppose combat encounters arent that bad because you can save scum, right?

Yeah you can always reload (and running away is almost always an option anyway) but there are times when you need to do some combat to complete a task and warrior starting with good equipment just makes that easier and means you spend less time recovering after messy fights. Not that fights are common! I found the timer to be fine on the regular difficulty, I managed to do a lot on my first go but it was a bit tight by the end and I had to abandon some threads.

yep I ended up restarting and am doing much better now that I get how to play the game. rolling all different mercs to start too so it's not even repetitive. great game!

is there more variety and builds at least? that was my main rub with remnant was a) levels were kinda ugly and too limited, and b) not a whole lot of variety

The game has actual classes now, each with a few passives and an active skill so you can have your class skill (each class has three and you can switch which one is active at any time outside of combat) top of two weapon mods. You can apparently level multiple classes on the same character and switch between them, and even multiclass later in the game.

I chose the class that is basically just the Very Good Boy weapon mod from the first game.

As for environments I've only seen two worlds so far and one of them is basically a Destiny level orbiting a black hole and the other is literally just Leyndell from Elden Ring.

edit: If I die, my dog automatically uses one of my estus charges to revive me and if my partner dies I can send him to revive them. Dog good, game good.

Played a few more missions of armored core 4A. I have no idea what I'm doing build wise and nobody online seems to know clearly either, or its just too complex to explain.
I replaced my arms with machine guns and that seems to work pretty well.
Already beat up patches

It's very fast and zippy and it's fun paying for an ally armored core and then watching them zip around throwing missiles and lasers at enemies.
The building destruction is very satisfying too which I wasn't expecting, sections get destroyed and collapse pleasingly

I like that if you fail a mission it just keeps going but I also feel bad for the truck escort lady who probably died in a tunnel because I ran out of ammo and quit the mission

Speaking of, I would like to hack in infinite ammo

uhh, that's not how that works at all. it highly depends on the contrast. try doing a single white pixel on a black screen (highest contrast possible) and see how far you have to be to not see it

in the same vein, the higher the contrast your monitor can deliver, the easier it is to see individual pixels in your grey grid

the bottleneck with LCDs is the trash contrast so going to resolutions higher than 4-5k on a pc monitor is well into diminishing returns. white's kinda ok but black's a dark grey at best unless you get one of those $30k dual lcd layer screens

if we ever get good monitor tech without oled burnin but good contrast like that though, 8k is going to kick rear end

i said MTF what more do you want. black next to white is maximum modulation. transfer function happens in your eyes. If you can't see the grid of white on black - guess what - you aren't resolving the pixel grid. You are resolving less than 1080x1920

seeing a white pixel in a sea of black doesn't mean you resolve the pixel, only that you perceive one small part of the screen as brighter. not the same thing at all. your eyes can't resolve the stars that doesn't mean you can't see the milky way

Big Bad Idiot

likewise, seeing the milky way does not imply seeing every single star resolved. which is what you're claiming

yes deeper blacks higher contrast increases the ability for your eye to resolve it but human eyes have have a limit.

a 65" 8k screen would need you to sit under 2 feet away with 20/20 vision. it's extremely stupid and sells well to people who have no idea what resolution is

looking forward to spending six months playing this and having no idea what's going on in the plot because all my focus will be spent on keeping my friends from roaming into random directions like kids in a shopping mall

unironically, it was like that with Original Sin 2 and it was a blast

in OS2 we all decided to play as skeletons
I spent a good amount of time raising my relations with all the traders in Driftwood to max so I could get better deals

after a boss fight one of my friends went back to the city to check new gear but accidentally unequipped his boots, making the guards attack him
since I had good relations with several traders, they joined in the fight on our side

the end result was that the entire town fell into civil war even after he left, we waited around for a few minutes and when we came back there were corpses and blood from one end of the city to the other

sadly there's still that 1% of knowledge that's stuck in my brain that holds me back because i'll be like 'oh yea this part and then that happens'. still have more brain cells yet to fry sadly

This has been my go-to strategy for years when I replay the GBA / DS castlevania games. I loop through them or order and then by the time I’m ready to start over it’s been 2-3 years and my old man brain remembers nothing of substance.
