IMHO there is a fairly good chance that what we saw here means that Finland will drop the Navy from the Armed Forces in the future, or further reduce it to couple of destroyers which can waltz in and say "go away", run around and hide in the archipelago, and switch fully to anti-ship missile systems and a network of observation stations. The coastal jäger corps can do their island hopping with airforce and missile+artillery support just fine, since we only need to reach few places all within 200 km from mainland anyways.

Yes, but at this point seeing how impotent Russian navy is against anti-ship missiles, and the Gulf of Finland is almost narrow enough to use artillery for anti-ship purposes, we might as well stop throwing money on our own missile corvettes which never do anything, and just buy every now and then few newer ones to refurbish when US or UK is dumping their inventory. And yes I know fixation to building our own Navy is one of the government projects to maintain local shipbuilding industry and part of the pre-NATO self-sustainability plans but still.

For that we are building 4 "corvettes", that are 4300t ships that by size would be classified as frigates in most navies, but are called corvettes instead because people expect frigates to have some endurance on station, while the Pohjanmaa class is designed for an endurance of just two weeks. (Which makes sense in the context of planning to operate in a friendly archipelago.) Still, there are people who think it's a bit comical to call a ship that carries 32 ESSM and 8 Gabriel V a corvette.

For what’s it’s worth regarding Ukraine ever deciding to rebuild some sort of navy in the future, people might not be aware but there are a silly amount of Ukrainians involved in the maritime industries. There is a strong seafaring tradition there and a lot of the older guys I work with were formerly in the red fleet in some form or another. It’s a small thing but worth remembering when you ponder whether trying to rebuild a small naval force is daft or not.
