the current president was nearly deposed before he entered office two years ago, yeah. looks like this is a palace coup that failed to catch on with the wider military and may already be over at this point. Nigeria put out a pretty strong statement

In Mali the French left after a military coup and Wagner took on a bigger role. In Burkina Faso a coup also preceded French withdrawal and subsequent warmer relations with Russia. Feels sort of like what happened with Haftar in Libya, where someone the US probably saw as an asset struck out on their own. Seems like the US training isn't as successful at indoctrinating officers into pro-US worldviews anymore. Looking at the results it still seems pretty good at teaching the military how to seize control of the government.
