I watched that Manhattan show and it's super weird. Kinda goes off the deep end in season 2 with a lot of weird poo poo going on involving the fictionalized characters that doesn't really add much to the historical story or seem necessary other than if they think the history isn't interesting enough?

Just an update to confirm what I already commented on, in case any of you were bored enough to try it - the Secret Invasion finale was pure poo poo. Just the most garbage mid 00s-style superhero movie plot. Seriously makes me wonder how terrible the real world writing environment at Marvel is to either not get good writers or not give them enough time to come up with an engaging story. Or maybe the producers just don't know if the writing is good or not.

After watching it, a comment on /r/secretinvasion that the finale was unengaging resulted in an immediate ban, hah.

Ok, yeah, I just watched the finale, and it was probably officially the worst thing from the MCU. It was just incredibly stupid.

Olivia Coleman was amazing in it, I'll say that. I'm generally a MCU fan. But it was just full of glaring plot holes, provided zero answers for the questions it raised, and we now have Emilia Clarke's character out there now with the powers of every single Avenger and every single enemy the Avengers have ever fought as a Super Duper Uber Skrull, and she innately knew how to use those powers the second she got them. Now moving forward in the MCU, the answer to every problem will be, "Well, why don't we call in Gaia, the Super Duper Mega Crazy Powerful Skrull just take care of it?" Plus it looked ludicrous how she would use the powers, she would suddenly grow the arm of Drax or Hulk, or the antennas of Mantis.

I personally separate MCU Disney+ shows into a few tiers, and the only one (for me) that is legitimately great is Loki. There are others that are really enjoyable if you are a mega nerd, and some that are just OK but not required viewing even if you are a big MCU fan. Then there are some that are actively terrible and should be avoided at all costs, and Secret Invasion is unfortunately among those.

There is not one but two American Gladiator documentaries on streaming, released within about a month of each other.

One is a Vice coproduction of 30 for 30 on ESPN, and does that typical Vice sensationalism/fourth-wall break stuff that is beyond tired at this point, given that Documentary Now made fun of them for it years ago and Vice is circling the drain. It focuses mostly on Johnny Ferraro, the weirdo who came up with/stole the idea from... Pennsylvania iron workers?!? The filmmakers take a rich and interesting story and make it hard to give a poo poo through endless gimmickry and a pointed lack of study of the show. Johnny is also a poo poo interview because he doesn't want to answer any questions about anything, as opposed to promoting himself. It is titled The American Gladiators Documentary, as if nothing more need be said.

The other is a Netflix production called Muscles & Mayhem. It mostly follows the original cast of the show from 1989-1993 (when most of them were fired for trying to renegotiate their lovely contracts) while involving Ferraro very little if at all. Apparently none of the original cast want anything to do with Ferraro. Compared to the ESPN documentary, it is far more informative, detailed, and not as interested in promoting a storyline fabricated for the documentary. This one will make you want to watch American Gladiators. The show's design, technical difficulties, and personalities are discussed in exhaustive detail, and it does a far better job of explaining the history of the show.

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
Full Circle by Soderbergh just finished up and it is a tight six episode miniseries that sticks the landing.

If you finish that but need more county-level crimes and Timothy Oliphant in your life Justified is back...in Detroit! I just watched the three episodes that are out and so far so good, though I miss Boyd Crowder (how could you not?).

I also just saw They Cloned Tyrone on Netflix and it's kind of great? A sci fi satire in the vein of Sorry To Bother You but less socialism and more blaxploitation. John Boyega is so good as a lead, Rian Johnson really did gently caress him over.

Season 2 is even better than season 1. Most of the episodes (with two big exceptions) are actually way more chill vibes than season 1. It's also always been a drama with some funny parts. I don't see how that has changed at all. Best season of a show this year imo.

There is much less of this than in S1 IMO. It's mostly concentrated in one episode.

e: ^^ def agree that this is a drama that uses comedy to cut the tension, I would never consider the show a comedy.

I wouldn't put it that way. Season 2 has one incredibly loving dramatic episode that also has funny parts, and one just very dramatic episode. There is humor throughout, but the dramatic elements are a little better (in my opinion), making it an improved season overall.

If you get to the super dramatic episode (you'll know when you do) and decide it's too much, you could probably skip it and read a summary since it's really just backstory. But it's good, even though it made me need to turn off the TV for a while.

Definitely watch season 2 if you liked season 1.

I actually kind of love Tenet, but I had to watch it a few times before it became super enjoyable to me. I really wish I could have seen it in theaters (I didn't for reasons you mentioned) and I irrationately hold out hope they'll do another theater release someday. I hope the dude at least understands now why things happened the way they did.

Denis Villeneuve was also bummed about WB doing the simultaneous release thing and I get that, it was really a special experience in theaters. At the same time, though, it was really fun to be able to watch it a second time right away at home.

Watching Brawl in Cell Block 99. Am I hallucinating or did this really just happen. This dude goes back to an active firefight with the police (who couldve just killed him at any point), giving up his chance to escape, risking his freedom and family while his wife is still pregnant...so he can kill the cartoonish Hispanic drug dealers he was WORKING with?? Because they were too good at fighting off the cops?!?! And he wanted to prevent more cops from dying from his former allies and their Saint's Row rampage? It's ridiculous. Arnold could get away with it in a fun stupid 90s Arnold movie I guess but not something as dour and serious and dramatic as this.
This dude sucks and hes stupid as gently caress to boot. No poo poo you never pick the cream and always get the skim or whatever the gently caress, you're an idiot with a skewed and selective moral compass
