Lethal operative Scot Harvath is dispatched to avenge the killing of American citizens abroad in #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor’s new pulse-pounding thriller.

In the war-ravaged borderlands of Ukraine, a Russian mercenary unit has gone rogue. Its members, conscripted from the worst prisons and mental asylums across Russia, are the most criminally violent, psychologically dangerous combatants to ever set foot upon the modern battlefield.

With all attention focused on the frontlines, they have pushed deeper into the interior to wage a campaign of unspeakable barbarity. As they move from village to village, committing horrific war crimes, they meet little resistance as all able-bodied men are off fighting the war.

Simultaneously, a team of Russian soldiers has been dispatched by the Kremlin to loot truckloads of art and priceless cultural treasures hidden away in a host of churches, museums, and private homes.

When multiple American aid workers are killed, America’s top spy, Scot Harvath, is sent in to settle the score. But in a country so vast, will Harvath be able to find the men in question and, more importantly, will he be able to stop them before they can kill again?

I hope more Ukrainians start complaining about this demon crackkker nation.

The Mediterranean climate is formed by trade winds from cold and hot climates intersecting with each other in such a way that keeps the temperature mild all year. It's very similar to how Europe isn't as cold as Russia because of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation current. If the geographic circumstances are just right then latitude doesn't matter.

While I'm playing around with weather data, Kiev and Toronto have pretty similar temperature patterns, Kiev is about 7 degrees further north. But if she's moved from Odessa to Montreal for instance there is a pretty big difference.

Was Wagner actually recruiting from psychiatric care hospitals? I remember hearing something about that but I was pretty sure at the time it was something Ukraine made up to try and smear the recruiting process that was going on lol

wagner recruited a crack squad from a psychiatric hospital. they're lethal... insanely lethal.

there's striker - he has depression, he welcomes death and will off himself the second he gets his gun.
there's slim - she has anorexia and presents a smaller target. she'll starve after a few weeks.
there's wildcard - he's a real schizophrenic and you know what that means: he immediately deserts to go stalk some celebrity
there's grace - she's catatonic... in the face of danger... and also at any other time.

i don't know what people who fantasise about recruiting patients from psychiatric hospitals expect. a group of hannibal lecters tearing their way through the battlefield?

Ace approached the liberated village outhouse, his custom chromed blacked out multicam swiss made FN-2000 with the underslung shotgun / grenade attachement loaded and side mounted bayonet at the ready. That breakfast burrito weighed heavily on his mind. He easily disarmed another primitive Russian booby trap consisting of two tin cans hiding a grenade then checked out the interior.

"drat" he muttered to himself, through his limited edition Bungie store Destiny 2: Forsaken Edition neck gaiter.

It was gone. The toilet was just gone. Smashed out by the looks of it. The Russians had been careful not to damage their prize but not being able to use tools they'd instead crudely ripped up the floor and part of the wall and taken the whole lot with them. The bastards.

Ace's breakfast burrito continued to rumble.

Does Ukraine have a second summer push up its sleeve?
BY BRAD DRESS
07/28/23 5:42 AM ET

John Herbst, a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine and now a senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, said Ukraine has slightly outperformed his expectations.

He pointed to Bakhmut in particular, where Ukrainian troops are retaking swaths of territory after Russia expended thousands of troops over a year to seize the city.

“If they were to close off Bakhmut and capture 10,000 or 15,000 Russian soldiers, that will be a significant defeat, with real political ramifications,” Herbst said.

He also argued that if Ukraine retakes up to 500 square miles of territory by the end of the operation, that would still be a victory.

“That’s not an impressive feat,” Herbst said. “But it compares very nicely with the failure of the Russian counteroffensive, which took nine months to take Bakhmut.”
