I watched a few hours of him doing the first half of this on Twitch (playing in the background) and I didn't realize he was going to do the entire game like this :smithicide:

New Game+ on RE4R is so much fun. Blasting Ganados with the fully upgraded Red9 and Shotgun allowed me to sail through the village in under two hours - it's extremely satisfying taking out Brutes and Chainsaw guys with no difficulty. Plus Krauser's knife made short work of Gigante and the Garradors.

I'm saving up enough cash for the Infinity Launcher but I feel like I might not be able to afford it on this run. I'm already halfway through the castle and I've got 800k in the bank. I probably won't have enough until I get to the end of the island. Capcom have done a really great job of making the first play through difficult and scary, while making the second go seem like a theme park. I love this game.

I tried NG+ after Hardcore NG but quit after couple hours because I decided I wasn't suffering enough so I started Professional NG instead.

There's a charm that gives you 25%ish off the rocket launcher. Save in the firing range room and try every combination of coins you can, reloading after each try. You might not get lucky this run but it's always worth trying

I was looking back, and it sounds like it's working about the same as in my runs. First game normal, second game NG+ to play with upgraded weapons and rack up cash, then getting the infinite launcher fairly early in the third run. In my case, right before the first Gigante fight, it could've been earlier if I was trying harder to get money. The infinite launcher run was just a total blast :dumbrim: and it's also interesting to see the few parts where it's actually still a challenge - you definitely want to keep at least a pistol with some oomph so you can shoot stuff around Ashley without exploding her.

Yeah I'm definitely keeping my Red 9 and stock because it's been with me since I found it on the boat and it's probably my favourite weapon. I didn't even bother with the rifle, just use the Red 9 to take out enemies from a distance.

I didn't realise that New Game+ let's you start with all your upgraded weapons, so I sold everything right before the Saddler fight in order to upgrade my magnum to full strength. Lucky I saved before the fight so I could go back, kick his rear end and have the Red 9 from the beginning.

I wish you could manipulate the rewards so you get the "double money from all healing items" every time. Last time I had that I upgraded all my weapons to max in a single playthrough.

I did an escape room yesterday and I just can't believe that at some theme park or something there isn't a large scale Resident Evil escape room, maybe incorporating laser tag or something for zombie combat (zombat?).

Escape rooms are totally RE puzzles in the best way. Hiring actors is expensive which is probably why local rooms only go as far as the 'trapped in a room with a zombie' concept.

I went to a wedding the other day that was held in a medieval style castle that was built in New England in the 1920’s by some gilded-age millionaire who imported the pieces from various castles across Europe. Huge Resident Evil vibes, they even had a Ramon Salazar costume on display.

Somebody playing RE4R asked if Ashley is kidnapped as much in the original and I tried to put my memory cap on.

As I recall there are 3 real sections with Ashley. That final rescue barely counts, there's like five enemies left in the game and the final boss. The first section is by far the longest, from the church to escape the village to house defense to the two routes to the ski lift to entering the castle to the crank/water room. This must take a few hours.

Second section is her solo bit with the slide puzzle. the grail room with the two waves of knights, the descending ceiling, and the death mobile. Then I feel like she's kidnapped by Novistadors right after this so this is barely any time with her at all.

Third time is after you rescue her from the cell on the island, jump into the garbage with iron Maidens, the wrecking ball room, driving the weird machine, and then she's kidnapped again. Also very short in my memory.

So basically that first time is the only time you will have Ashley around for a good while, right?

Captain Hygiene

That's pretty much all I had in mind. I guess it feels like she's with you longer than she probably is, the castle and island bits are all pretty short or mix it up from the actual escort mission mechanics.

Remembering that the subway cars in Raccoon City needed two medallions, of course kept in separate locations, to be disconnected from each other

I prefer the grey firm kind but this is what was in stock at the time so I'm rolling with it.

It's kinda fragile.

A good paint job will cover it up and any cracks are just battle damage.

Sculpting is so much fun.

Hey just doing a quick check to make sure there's no magic trick I'm not getting to making RE4R not crash so consistently on PC.

Did the usual "thoughts and prayers" fixes (updating drivers, verifying game files, etc.) and turned down all the settings to near minimum with raytracing off and I'm still getting what feels like a crash for every hour of gameplay. The graphics settings menu in-game says I'm using like 20% of my card's VRAM and it's still just not stable.

Thinking about modding so I can use DLSS and see if that lightens the load to the point where it's more stable since FSR2 upscaling looks kinda assy in this game

Really really good. The only mark against it for me is that RE4 classic is still great and might still be better in my eyes.

For me RE4make is easily 9/10. It plays like RE4 but with modern shooter controls. All the classic elements of the original are present like suplexing and kicking mooks, finding treasure and upgrading your guns.

It's also much harder than the original on higher difficulties if you think you've mastered RE4.

I think I like RE4Remake more than the original. It's dumb but the only thing that annoys me is how tight it likes to keep you on ammo. I understand that it's theoretically more fun for me to always be swapping weapons and not obliterate the scarcity part of the game but in my heart of hearts I just want to build up a big tension-destroying pile of rifle ammo. Can't help it.

That's why, as bad as I am at games, I did Professional/Madhouse in RE4/7. Give me that sweet sweet infinite ammo for future runs, even if it makes Leon look stupid

Gonna go against the general consensus and say RE4R mostly felt like a worse version of the original game. Still good but everything about the movement felt muddier and just less fun. Guns in general were better, but melee felt way worse. Also Salazar is way less fun, and that's a crime.

RE4 Remake worked for me because the original is just in the zone of too dumb/not weird enough to enjoy and so it has no appeal for me. Never even completed it.

Since RE4 dragged the game a few notches towards serious and horror, it was just a much more appealing mood for me. It's still absurd, but at the centre of it are Ashley and Leon who were portrayed like actual human beings I gave a poo poo about. Ada was worthless though. Villains, too, pretty much. But it didn't really matter because the core was good.

My favourite part was the castle.

I don't really care about the gameplay beyond that it worked and it was pretty fun.

I'll definitely play it again at some point.

SettingSun
Aug 10, 2013

RE4 is a perfect game, the passage of time only slightly diminishing its majesty. The remake had a tall order trying to meet its quality, and while I don't think it hit the same blinding heights it was a worthy successor.

100% agreed, been saying it from the start. RE4 is a 10/10 all time classic. RE4R is an 8/10, a fine game, but it’s very obvious that it’s an attempt to convert a different game’s engine to fit the RE4 scenario, and all of the additions onto the original feel conspicuous and unnecessary.
