Bogus Adventure posted:They are films about how global warming/climate change is just elitist propaganda. That kind of turned me off on it. The villain's plan in the first movie is to kill most of the world's population in order to stop climate change, which he earnestly believes is happening, and the movie gives no indication that he's wrong. That seems like the opposite of presenting climate change as just elitist propaganda.

I'd be less wary of the intentions if they didn't do the whole Lenin and Hitler team-up.

Last time I caught Kingsman on TV just recently, I was struck by it having a faint patina...of douchbaggery. Like, it moves fast, the action is great, music is good, the acting wry and interesting, and its all in service of upholding middle aged white dudes in fancy suits as the ideal. Deaths are nasty, people are expendable (including women students that are on the good guy's side), you're really supposed to just focus on this rad suit dude showing up chavs, and everyone else. It left a kinda bad taste in my mouth. The movie is mean

I like that it’s mean. It’s a fun send up on the nasty elements of the bond franchise. Maybe that’s why I love it because all the problematic elements are just bond tropes cranked up to 11. Also Valentine’s plan is very evil and bad because murdering vast amounts of people in hopes of saving the world is bad and stupid

I'm not clicking on it, but from the thumbnail I can tell it's one of those click-harvesting channels that reuploads movie trailers and clips. They sometimes resample the video to get around copyright auto-detection, is my assumption. Though the movies are terrible and they could just look bad.

The second one went way over the line to the extent where I was cringing in the theater.

Yeah, The King's Man was one of those remarkably dull movies that don't give you anything to feel invested in. That and the Assassin's Creed movie are two peas in a pod.

The Peccadillo posted:Dead City seemed okay but it got pretty boring pretty quick. It's Lauren Cohen and Jeffrey Dean Morgan going to save her son from some guy that kidnapped him to New York. There seems to be a lot of prologue to it from the original show I havent seen. Last thing I saw was a season where Jeffrey Dean Morgan beat Lauren Cohen's husbands brains out infront of her but I guess they're tentatively cool now somehow. Both good actors! The OG series was pretty terrible for most of the middle seasons but once Angela Kang took over, the show was GOOD. Fear was consistently entertaining from season 3 to when Nick Stahl showed up and died. world beyond sucked rear end but it ties to the overarching story and various plot points through the series. Plus it gives Jadis character developement. Tales was hit or miss. Dead City was marketed as a one and done, ended on a cliffhanger and got renewed…I liked it wel enough. The ones who live and Dixon haven’t come out yet .

The MSJ posted:One, starring Michael Fassbender as the main character. He and the director did it to get their Macbeth movie funded. Don’t think this is true. Macbeth was already underway when Ubisoft approached Fassbender and offered to make him both producer and lead. The announcement that Fassbender made the deal came after Macbeth’s release and Fassbender then asked Kurzel to direct because he liked working with him. On top of the timelines not matching, the production companies are completely different. Not sure why StudioCanal would pay for Macbeth because Fassbender did a video game movie with New Regency.

They did add the movie to the game's canon, mostly through just outside of the animus codex text.
